Texas A&M University’s emergency management team is responsible for writing emergency plans, providing training for first responders, designing and facilitating emergency exercises, education outreach, supporting special events, and responding to large-scale emergencies on campus and at off-campus instructional sites across the state. What we want

The Emergency Management Specialist II, as part of the department of Emergency Management, will be responsible for supporting the implementation of and ensuring compliance with Texas A&M University’s emergency management program requirements. The position adheres to requirements that ensure compliance with applicable Federal and State regulations, as well as Texas A&M University System (TAMUS) policies and regulations.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in emergency management, public administration, business administration, or related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Four years of experience in emergency management or emergency response related field. 

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • Must have a Class “C” vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent communicator, presenter, trainer.
  • Must be able to collaborate with university employees and students.
  • Must have complete FEMA courses. NIMS 700, 800, 100, 200, 300, 400.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in emergency management, public administration, business administration, or related field.
  • More than four years of experience in emergency management. Experience in higher education emergency management.
  • Completed FEMA instructor training courses.

Responsibilities:

Emergency Planning

  • Assist with writing and periodically reviewing and updating the campus emergency operations plans, including all attachments and annexes. Assist with review and management of departmental continuity plans.

Training for students, faculty, and staff

  • Implements emergency management training program to ensure compliance. 
  • Facilitates training and orientation sessions on emergency management topics.
  • Provides continuing education opportunities. 
  • Coordinate’s NIMS-level training and other appropriate emergency management training to response organizations and departments including Emergency Operations Center personnel. 

Exercises

  • Assists in the development and facilitation of emergency and continuity exercises.

Education Outreach

  • Implements the education outreach program to share emergency preparedness information with the campus community.

Emergency Response and Special Event Operations

  • Respond to various workday and off-duty emergency incidents at the Texas A&M University – College Station campus.
  • Supports Special Event Planning and Operations as needed.
  • Monitor intelligence related to emergencies or emergency hazards that may impact campus personnel and operations and provide recommendations to leadership on appropriate response actions.

Emergency Preparedness

  • Assists with the emergency preparedness efforts for the University including coordinating emergency planning and response capabilities with interjurisdictional partners and representing the University on a local, state, and federal level with various emergency management agencies.

After Action Reviews

  • Coordinates after-action reviews and assists in the development of action plans and timelines for accomplishing outstanding tasks.
