Context
Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leading UN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.
Task description
Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Head of Peace and Development Coordination Unit or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer Peace and Development Officer will: • Support the Peace and Development Coordination Unit (PDCU), in close coordination with Programme Support Unit (PSU), Regional Office and IOM HQ, in project implementation and project planning for conflict management, community resilience and peace building and conflicts mitigation, ensuring identification of opportunities, timely drafting, compilation and submission of project concept notes and proposals (including work plans and logical frameworks) in compliance with donor requirements. • Identify and map relevant stakeholders and develop potential partnership and collaboration forums and strategies to support PDCU programming. • Compile, review and document national, regional and international instruments, policies and strategies relevant for peacebuilding/conflict management initiatives. • Track, develop, and/or modify Information, Education and Communication (IEC) tools, methodologies, and approaches used and tested in the context of conflict management and peace building initiatives, including identification and synthesis of best practices and lessons learned directly linked to programme, institutional and country policy goals. • Update workplans for assigned projects, track deliverables and escalate delays or other issues to the Programme Managers and Programme Officers across the Peace and Development Coordination Unit (PDCU). • Lead reporting across PDCU programmes to ensure donor reports are timely prepared and submitted to donors. This includes but is not limited to internal and external reports and updates, quarterly reports, and program activity reports. • Support communications across the Peace and Development Coordination Unit (PDCU), ensuring communications materials archive, developing a communications calendar, and producing social media posts, success stories, and other materials to promote visibility of the unit’s activities, in close collaboration with the Mission’s Communication Groups. • Work closely with the PSU, national staff, and selected vendors to produce communications materials for external audiences. • Coordinate with Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) team and other project staff to ensure data and other information is collected and analysed, updated into the M&E platform, and project evaluations are undertaken. • Liaise with finance, logistics and procurement to ensure all procurement and payments are undertaken in a timely manner. • Support the programme management team in liaising with implementing partners, relevant government counterparts, and other peacebuilding stakeholders as relevant to the projects and activities of the thematic areas

This assignment is funded by the Government of Finland and therefore specific criteria apply. ELIGIBILITY – Candidates must be Finnish nationals and must have knowledge of Finnish or Swedish. Required experience
3 years of experience in conflict resolution, peacebuilding and support to institutional development in the context of conflict prone rural, mobile communities; • Ability to collect and analyse data on conflict induced disasters, forced displacements as well as capacity building and peace building; • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills; • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing; • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development; • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel; • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment; • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines; • Desirable: valid national driver’s license and proven ability to drive manual gear 4×4 over rough terrain; (if not applicable, delete) • Sound security awareness; • Have affinity with or interest in Community Resilience and Peacebuilding, Demilitarization Demobilization and Reintegration, Women Peace and Security, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.

Living conditions and remarks
The UNV will be based in Maputo. An entry visa is required for all travellers not citizen of countries exempted of visa and should be obtained prior to the arrival in the country. The local currency is the Metica (MZN) that has a fixed exchange rate to the euro (1 euro = 67.57 MZN). Commercial banks exist in the country and Visa Credit cards are accepted in all hotels and in major shops. Security in Maputo is relatively good. The climate is tropical: hot and humid in the south. Maputo has the main international airport (Maputo International airport) of the country; Maputo is the commercial and cultural centre of the country, and its sidewalk cafés, bars, and discotheques offer some of the liveliest nightlife in southern Africa; Maputo offer diverse options for accommodation, hospitals, banking facilities, communication infrastructures and the main spoken language is Portuguese.
