Job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Laboratory Technician who will work in the Synapse & Therapeutic Discovery Laboratory Group at the Department of Basic and Clinical Neuroscience, King’s College London, Denmark Hill Campus. This post has been established to support research within the group. This position is for a 7-month contract. Within our laboratory, you will play a crucial role in processing postmortem brain samples from patients with neurodegenerative disorders and analysing protein expression levels, maintaining documentation, and ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment.  

The Synapse & Therapeutic Discovery Laboratory Group focuses on understanding how neurodegenerative diseases induce dysfunction of synapses, with the aim to uncover novel molecular pathways.

This post will be offered on a part-time (50% FTE) fixed-term contract for 7 months.

Key responsibilities

  • Preparation of human postmortem brain samples for protein analysis   
  • Preforming protein analysis (e.g., Western blot and ELISA) 
  • Amplification of plasmids  
  • Design and successful molecular cloning 
  • General lab duties (e.g., making solutions, ordering items, inventory)

Skills, knowledge, and experience

Essential criteria  

1.       BSci or MSci in neuroscience or relevant subject 

2.       Knowledge of synapse function 

3.       Experience working in an academic or industry laboratory 

4.       Experience in protein handling techniques (Western blot, Co-IP) 

5.       Experience in molecular cloning 

Desirable criteria

1.       Experience using imaging techniques 

2.       Experience iPSC culture
