How can you make a difference?

Under the supervision of the Principal Advisor for Health, the incumbent of the post is responsible for playing a central role in mainstreaming the Knowledge Management (KM) functions in the day-to-day work of the health programmes. The incumbent will provide technical support and quality assurance on the implementation of KM priorities for Health across all Health staff, helping strengthen systems for generating, gathering, customizing, managing and disseminating knowledge. The incumbent will strengthen the capacity of staff to be efficient knowledge managers. The incumbant will also be responsible for supporting in World Bank and Asian Development Bank and other large grants and will lead in all aspects of major donor reporting, including narrative reports and working with the budget officers to ensure financial reporting is completed, and, working with communications team, and donor recognition elements as needed.

 

Summary of key functions/accountabilities:

  • Global KM strategy coordination (10%)
    • Support implementation of the global Health KM priorities in in Afghanistan
    • Contribute to discussions on the theory of change to fine-tune KM approaches
    • Raise the profile of UNICEF knowledge at internal and external events and support mainstreaming of KM priorities in programme funding proposals
    • Interface with other UNICEF divisions and teams on KM and capacity development
  • Strengthen systems for generating, gathering and customizing knowledge (30%) 
    • Strengthen planning of knowledge products from the health section
    • Collect and compile knowledge produced in the health section for presentation on dissemination platforms
    • Identify and curate external knowledge of relevance for UNICEF staff
    • Strengthen quality assurance processes for all knowledge products
    • Initiate/support research partnerships and promote academic publishing among staff
  • Strengthen systems for knowledge management and dissemination (30%) 
    • Ensure good practices throughout the team on document management
    • Strengthen online presence of Health through ECM (communication pages and collaboration sites), external facing sites and communities of practice (e.g., Yammer) and utilization of those platforms by Health and non-Health staff
    • Strengthen online presence of the health section through periodic updates to the country office site and manage social media handles
    • Support functioning of KM community(-ies) of practice
    • Track, collect and vet monitoring, evaluation and research initiatives in health, and obtain and organize resource materials related to health research and M&E for knowledge sharing and publication.
  • Support report and knowledge products (30%) 
    • Prepares inputs into donor reports, briefing notes, strategy documents and other key materials;
    • Timely and accurate reporting and monitoring of donor interests and information needs as it is related to health programmes. This includes gathering of information, consolidation of information, editing and production of inputs into interim and final reports
    • Prepares newsletters or other types of materials needed to communicate health program activities.
    • Working with communications colleagues on human interest stories
    • Researches and supports in preparation of background material for use in meetings, discussions, briefing sessions

 

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have?

  • An advanced university degree in social science, science, engineering, public health or related technical field. Formal training in information sciences and knowledge management is highly desirable.
  • A minimum of five years of professional experience in knowledge management, research, monitoring and evaluation, programme management (or a related field) at national or international level.
  • Proven ability in formulating and implementing knowledge management strategies and utilizing information technology for knowledge management is an asset.
  • Excellent teamwork and organizational skills
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Prior significant experience in developing countries is desirable.
  • Prior experience working in the UN and/or other international development organizations is an asset
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of a second UN language, in particular French and Spanish, is considered an asset.
