Job Summary Responsible for providing support to international students and scholars in social, and immigration matters at the Center for International Services and Programs (CISP). Serves as the Designated School Official (DSO), maintaining the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) and all related certification requirements. Provides guidance and decisions that impact student’s educational goals. Responsible for providing visa designations F and J status students basic advising services, orientation, trainings, and implementing retention strategies and programming to meet the needs of the international student population. Problem solves a variety of complex issues requiring visa designations F and J student visa rules and regulations. Works independently and as a team member in the Office of International Student Services and across Cleveland State University (CSU) to provide support for international students. Provides other functionally related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in higher education’s international admission.
  • One (1) year of experience in higher education international admission at a university or college.
  • Must be U.S. citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident and must meet DHS and Department of State (DOS) criteria as DSO and/or ARO.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Two (2) years working knowledge of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) in regards to B, F, J and other visas in relation to issuing initial I-20s or DS 2019.
  • Experience in processing nonimmigrant visa document and fulfilling SEVIS reporting requirements set by the DHS.
  • Working knowledge of visa requirements and processing guidelines set by the Department of State.
  • Experience with event planning.
  • Knowledge of a customer relationship management (CRM) system for student experience, i.e., SLATE.
  • Association of International Educators.
  • NAFSA member and/or professional training through NAFSA.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Knowledge of current F-1 student visa rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures relating to admissions, registration, testing, and placement.
  • Ability to connect community services and resources for appropriate student referrals.
  • Skilled in researching and locating information related to internal and external organizations using online and other sources.
  • Ability to connect students with Cleveland community.
  • Skilled in effective written and verbal communication, organizational skills, exercise independent judgement, and decision-making abilities.
  • Effectively work with students and staff of various ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to effectively engage with individuals when issues arise to ensure appropriate communication and develop effective resolution plans.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint.
