Position description
The Human Impacts Institute (HII) is seeking a NYC based, seasonal, part-time Environmental Educator & Community Coordinator for 20 hrs per week, from April 1 – September 30, 2024. The ideal candidate is passionate and knowledgeable about climate and social justice issues, and will assist with our public engagement, education, and events throughout numerous NYC boroughs. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic, outgoing “people person” with a passion for public engagement and a keen interest in environmental education.
The Position
Reporting to the Executive Director and serving as an integral member of the HII Crew, the Environmental Educator & Community Coordinator will be responsible for helping facilitate and coordinate our diverse NYC, in person, exhibits, events, and workshops.
Qualifications
- A minimum of two years, hands-on experience, in the climate/social justice movement and/or environmental education. Any additional experience in nonprofit, art, environment, education or related field(s) will be given preference.
- Successful track record in organizing events, excellent project management skills and project multi-tasking.
- Extensive experience with, and comfortable in, speaking with the public.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with the ability to contribute to educational curriculum.
- A self-starter with a positive, can-do attitude. Dependability and flexibility required.
- Capability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, as well as the ability to perform physical labor (able to lift 40 pounds, regularly)
- Multilingualism is preferred but not required.
- Applicants must be available to work weekdays, evenings and weekends as schedule will vary depending on program needs.
Responsibilities and Expectations
- Coordination of in person exhibits, events, and workshops.
- Maintain program timelines and roadmaps with support of Program Coordinator.
- Assistance in refining and developing educational curriculum and preparing and organizing materials.
- Attend events, engage with the public, coordination and planning, may include setup and break down.
- Assist with fellow workshops. Coordinating, planning and participating in activities.
- Assistance in organizing interns, fellows, and volunteers where applicable.
Compensation
- The Environmental Educator & Community Coordinator will be compensated at the rate of $20.00 per hour, averaging 20 hours per week, from April 1 – September 30, 2024.
- A flexible work schedule is available, outside of mandatory scheduled events.
