The University of Maryland Baltimore (UMB), School of Pharmacy is currently seeking a Senior Research Project Coordinator or Lead Research Project Coordinator for the PATIENTS program of the Department of Practice, Sciences and Health Outcomes Research (P-SHOR). The position will be filled based on the selected candidate’s qualifications . The selected candidate will be responsible for supporting the overall strategic direction research and training initiatives of the PATIENTS program, through management and oversight of daily activities surrounding qualitative, patient-centered outcomes and health equity research projects. The PATIENTS Program is an interdisciplinary research team of community partners and researchers that work to change the way we think about research by creating a path for health equity in West Baltimore.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The open rank Research Project Coordinator will oversee the administrative activities surrounding major research initiatives, in order to support patient-centered outcomes research (PCOR) and community-engaged research (CEnR) studies on the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) campus in collaboration with the UMB Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR); implementation science; PCOR-related initiatives for reducing health disparities; and dissemination of findings to patients and other stakeholders and the communities we serve.
PRIMARY DUTIES – Senior Research Project Coordinator
- Independently manages daily operations of two or more research studies protocols. Serves as the primary liaison to other departments, outside organizations, government agencies, and product representatives to promote effective and efficient operation and use of resources. Provide guidance and direction to personnel engaged in research studies to ensure compliance with protocols and overall clinical objectives.
- Develops and tracks workflow policies and progress through the duration of the research study. Supports the completion of research project tasks. Assists Principal Investigators and regulatory staff in the preparation of new protocol submissions, protocol amendments, and renewals of ongoing research studies.
- Oversees subject recruitment enrollment to ensure that informed consent is properly secured and documented. Assesses eligibility of potential subjects through methods such as screening interviews, reviews of medical records, and discussions with research personnel.
- Monitors activities to ensure compliance with protocols and all relevant local, federal, and state regulatory and institutional policies. Continuously educates and trains personnel on compliance and protocol. Identifies protocol problems, informs investigators, and assists in problem resolution efforts.
- Manages complex study data. Develops and prepares study or research related documentation such as protocol worksheets, procedural manuals, adverse event reports, case report forms, and institutional review board documents.
- Responsible for developing and producing custom and routine reports. Responsible for working collaboratively with research team to ensure timely project completion.
- Conducts quality assurance audits on data and regulatory documentation.
- Assists in budget development, expenditure adherence, grant applications, and maintenance of inventory on equipment and supplies.
- Provides training and guidance to less experienced personnel.
- Attends research study or clinical trial related meetings, conferences and teleconferences, as well as participating in any additional planning and development related activities.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
PRIMARY DUTIES – Lead Research Project Coordinator
- Performs all duties of Senior Research Project Coordinator position.
- Independently manages and provides the most complex support to designated. Provide the highest-level guidance and direction to personnel engaged in research studies to ensure compliance with protocols and meet objectives.
- Plans, develops, administers, and coordinates new or revised project goals, objectives, workflows and policies through the duration of the research study. Implement approved study or trial policies and procedures.
- Ensures that goals and objectives specified for the research project are accomplished in accordance with priorities, time and funding limitations, or other specifications.
- Evaluates project effectiveness to develop and implement new or improved methods. Devise and implement evaluation methodologies.
- Oversees subject enrollment to ensure that informed consent is properly secured and documented.
- Coordinates research project activities through delegation of assignments to staff.
- Develops methods for collection, database storage, tracking, analysis, and interpretation of data.
- Coordinates budget development, expenditure adherence, grant applications, and maintenance of inventory on equipment and supplies.
- Recommends additional equipment and resources for the program.
- Reviews proposed study protocols to evaluate factors such as sample collection process, data management plans, and potential subject risks.
- Obtains information through interviews, questionnaires, test results, and charts.
- Provides training and guidance to less experienced personnel.
- Attends research study or clinical trial related meetings, conferences and teleconferences, as well as participating in any additional planning and development related activities.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS – Senior Research Project Coordinator
Education: Bachelor’s degree in nursing, emergency services, chemistry, biology, public health, psychology or another scientific discipline appropriate to position is required.
Preferred Education: Bachelor’s degree in health sciences, public health, social science and public policy preferred.
Experience: Two (2) years of research coordination experience with at least one (1) year in research specialization.
Preferred Experience: Prior experience with public health research programs, grant writing/acquisition, patient-centered outcomes research, community engaged research, and/or qualitative research is highly preferred.
Other: May consider a combination of directly related experience and education.

Hiring Range: $55,000 – $62,000 per year for Senior/ $67,000 – $76,000 per year for Lead (Commensurate with education and experience).
