Philanthropy Gift Officer – Remote

Compassion & Choices is seeking a Philanthropy Officer 
to help advance our work to improve care, expand options and
empower everyone to chart their end-of-life journey.

This position is responsible for identifying, cultivating,
soliciting and stewarding five and six figure gifts from prospects
and major donors across the nation. The ideal candidate must have a
track record of soliciting and closing major gifts, an
understanding of moves management and demonstrated experience
developing long term philanthropic relationships while consistently
meeting fundraising goals. Experience closing six figure gifts from
individuals is preferred. This position will also be responsible
for developing the vision, strategy, and goals for the Inner Circle
Conference Call program. 

  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 125-175 households
    utilizing moves management to renew and increase giving.
  • Work with organizational leadership and current supporters to
    identify new prospects capable of making major or principal
    gifts.  
  • Work with the senior philanthropy officer, chief development
    officer, program staff and other leadership to begin and maintain a
    fast pace of cultivating and soliciting annual $10K+, multi-year,
    and special gifts from current and prospective major donors with an
    annual goal of $1M+. 
  • Prioritize stewardship actions for personal portfolio donors,
    including thanking all gifts from donors within 48-hours and in
    accordance with department goals, and participating in foundation
    grant application and reporting processes, among others.
  • Achieve all annual metrics, including but not limited to: total
    amount raised from portfolio, number solicitations, number of total
    contacts, number of increased major gifts, number of substantive
    donor interactions, etc.
  • Collaborate with various teams across C&C on fundraising
    opportunities within the region, including strategic participation
    in state-based councils, lobby days, donor visits, and other
    activities to drive engagement and enhance major gift activity with
    donors, prospects, volunteers, and council members. 
  • Define vision, goals and strategy for all development-led
    events and activities that engage current and prospective major
    donors in the region. In conjunction with the Special Events
    Manager, ensure events and activities are executed to the highest
    level and in good coordination with any lead donors and/or
    hosts.
  • Contribute to the department by employing best practices and
    role-modeling key processes and programs that support an
    office-wide emphasis on collaborations, efficiencies and
    metrics/performance based outcomes.
  • Record all donor interactions in EveryAction, the CRM,
    according to departmental process, protocols, and deadlines.
  • Travel to donor visits, special events, meetings, etc. 35-40%
    of the time.

Preferred Qualifications (You will be a good fit):

Education and Experience:

  • B.A. in Business, Marketing, Communications or Non-Profit
    Management.
  • Four (4) years’ experience in nonprofit development, event
    planning, marketing, communications, or high-end sales (or
    equivalent combination of experience and education) including a
    minimum of 3 years of direct fundraising experience, ideally
    raising gifts of $100,000 or more.   

Skills: 

  • Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents and
    reports.  Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from
    donors. Ability to effectively present information to donors,
    volunteers, organizational management, and public groups.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts
    such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to
    practical situations.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data,
    establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. 
  • Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an
    individual should have working knowledge of Microsoft Office, donor
    databases, and basic prospect research tools.
