Position Summary The Social Media Coordinator reports to the Director, Strategic Communications. The Social Media Coordinator brings innovation and creativity toward management of the University’s primary social media accounts, while developing and implementing an engaging, consistent presence aimed at driving interaction for specific stakeholder audiences and in line with the University’s strategic messaging pillars.
This role generates content utilized across all web, digital, owned media, and social media channels. The Social Media Coordinator participates in key division-wide projects and serves in support roles, contributing to goal attainment for strategic, tactical, and operational efforts such as marketing, social media, and other communications campaigns.
Essential Duties

  • Responsible for creating a comprehensive social media plan and strategy aimed at driving interaction for stakeholder audiences and in line with the University’s strategic messaging pillars
  • Write, edit, and publish/schedule engaging social media content across the University’s current and future digital and traditional communication channels
  • Monitor, measure, and evaluate the success of social media initiatives across key performance indicators and ancillary performance metrics
  • Monitor and respond to comments, messages, and mentions on social media platforms in a timely and professional manner
  • Participate in key division and campus-wide projects, serve in support roles, and contribute to goal attainment for strategic, tactical, and operational efforts such as marketing, social media, and other communications campaigns
  • Work collaboratively with campus partners, faculty, students, and alumni to creatively mine stories and ideas
  • Lead a cross-disciplinary, University-wide working group of social media managers, implementing strategies and governance oversight and serving as a resource for best practices on social media to colleagues across campus
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, social media best practices, and emerging platforms.
  • Stay fluent in higher education trends, and current events in Philadelphia, the surrounding region, and campus to leverage available opportunities for engagement
  • Formalization and oversight of an internship/student worker program, through which qualified work-study students will provide support for various communication channels, including social media
  • Maintain a high standard of quality and accuracy for all deliverables
Secondary Responsibilities

  • Provide supporting service for media relations initiatives, content creation, and crisis communications needs
  • Manage special projects and/or serve on committees as requested by the President, Chief of Staff and/or Director of Strategic Communications
  • Assist with key University events, as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or English
  • At least two (2) years of related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
  • Demonstrated experience managing social media channels in line with an established brand
  • Experience working with social and new media, understanding the nuances of social media messaging for a variety of platforms including TikTok, Facebook, X, Instagram, and LinkedIn, and leveraging these technologies for marketing, advertising, communications, and public relations purposes
  • Demonstrated understanding of photo and video editing platforms such as those found in the Adobe Creative Suite and/or Canva
  • Familiarity with social media scheduling platforms such as HubSpot
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, Project Management, and Cloud Collaboration software
  • Ability to work independently to meet expected deadlines and schedules
  • Basic interview skills with the comfort level and drive required to approach or pursue sources, in-person or via telephone/Skype, for information required for content development
  • Proven project management skills to meet deadlines, juggle competing priorities, and interface with a wide variety of constituents daily; Adherence to deadlines
  • Ability to produce written materials in a variety of formats—quickly, accurately, and effectively
  • Ability to synthesize complex materials into clearly understandable copy
  • Ability to create excitement and build brand equity through written materials
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of La Salle University

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working within a higher education environment
  • Familiarity with AP style
  • Audio and video editing, and video production skills
  • Experience utilizing collaborative project management and customer service software
  • Basic HTML skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of content marketing and SEO
  • Native or near-native (English-Spanish)
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours
  • This is an in-person position that requires the ability to work evenings and weekends as needed to support University news events and campaigns
  • Must be sufficiently agile to move about crowded rooms taking photographs and videos in awkward spaces and able to respond spontaneously to photographic opportunities.
