UNICEF works in some of the world’s toughest places, to reach the world’s most disadvantaged children. To save their lives. To defend their rights. To help them fulfill their potential.

Across 190 countries and territories, we work for every child, everywhere, every day, to build a better world for everyone.

And we never give up.

For every child, education

The Digital Strategy Section (DSS) in the Division of Global Communication and Advocacy creates and delivers compelling content to international audiences of parents, young people and UNICEF supporters. It builds engaged communities in multiple languages across social media and web platforms, while providing expert digital services to the organization. Paid digital marketing is an essential and rapidly growing part of this work to strengthen public support and achieve lasting change for children.

How can you make a difference?

The Product Designer will support the Digital Governance and Platforms Team to craft, evolve and enhance the front-end user experience of UNICEF’s Global Digital Web Platform through front-end UX/UI design development within its comprehensive design system.

The Product Designer will enable UNICEF’s Digital Governance and Platforms Team to offer clear and engaging web products by crafting, adapting, and enhancing the features available on our web platform.

Expected Results (Measurable Results):

The Product Designer will tackle design specific tasks assigned and estimated during regular sprint planning sessions, in coordination with the Product Owner and Creative Lead, using our Agile Project Management Methodology. The primary work of this consultancy will be to create design specifications and documentation within the UNICEF.org Design System, which is an enterprise-level, component and symbol based Figma library.

The expected results will include the participation in Sprint Planning and Sprint Demo sessions, along with full demonstration of the design task, and proper handover in Figma with notations for Product, Design, and Development teams, as noted above.

Scope of Work:

The Product Designer will participate in 10, (2 week) Design Sprint Cycles, following the direction of the Creative Lead, and planning from the global roadmap to:

  • Oversee the master Design System file and documentation, assure its accuracy, and maintain it as the Design of Record for all front-end visual design reference, specifications, and handovers.
  • Assure the accurate technical implementation of front-end design enhancements including the handover and user acceptance testing for front-end development.
  • Provide clear documentation for Design System deliverables and proper handover of the projects within Figma and the global design system.

The Product Designer will consolidate and prepare a final working Figma file and library as a formal “Design System” to hand over for in-house use and management by UNICEF.

Reporting Requirements:

  • The Product Designer will attend Sprint Demo sessions, where they will fully demonstrate the tasks, and work completed, based on user stories from the Product Owner and Creative Lead. All sessions are held remotely.
