Habitat Restoration Technician

Wildlife and Wetlands Solutions is a land management company that specializes in invasive species control, forestry support, and hazardous fuels reduction. Our jobs are typically a mix of wildlife, forestry, and agriculture practices and applications. Anyone with experience in farming, ranching, applying herbicides and/or operating a chainsaw will be given preference. Pesticide applicators license is required (Is paid for by WWS and can be obtained anytime).

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Native and invasive plant identification
  • Treatment and/or removal of invasive plants both mechanically and chemically
  • Chainsaw operation
  • Cutting trees and shrubs
  • Planting trees and shrubs
  • Farming – assisting in planting food plots and cover crops
  • Operation of a GPS unit in the field
  • Daily record keeping
  • General labor

A majority of our work comes from federal and state funded projects, non-profit organizations, conservation districts and local municipalities. We have completed many projects for the State of Michigan, US Forest Service, US Fish & Wildlife Service, US Department of Agriculture, US Corp of Engineers, BLM, as well as the National Parks
Service, Multiple state governments, MDOT, Pheasants Forever, Ducks Unlimited, the Ruffed Grouse Society, the Conservation Resource Alliance, and a number of private land owners.

Requirements:

  • Must be able to operate and maintain a chainsaw.
  • Must have or be able to acquire a commercial pesticide applicator’s license.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be in good physical condition.
  • Must be willing and able to work in rough terrain and inclement weather when necessary.
  • Must be willing and able to work weekends, holidays and odd hours when necessary.

Starting Compensation: $17-$20 depending on experience and qualifications (+$1 after passing commercial applicators exams)

Extensive overnight travel is required. We work throughout the entire state of MI as well as several neighboring great lakes states and even some western states. Travel expenses are paid for by WWS including $25 per diem for any overnight stays.

Full time employees will be given a $500 reimbursable uniform allowance and seasonal employees will be given a $200 allowance.
