Introduction
We are looking for one to two student assistants to support the research project CLONE – Consequences of Long-term Organizational Embeddedness. The CLONE project explores how embeddedness in historical networks affects the strategic decisions made by large corporations between 1910-2020. We study this by creating a unique database, combining historical data on accounts and networks. By doing this, the project extends the understanding of how corporations learn from and find alliances through networks. The research project is carried out under the direction of Associate Professor Christoph Ellersgaard at the Department of Organization at the Copenhagen Business School. You can read more about our project here .

Tasks
The work is data-driven archival research on the development of large Danish corporations and their social connections. The tasks thus include:

  • Help collect a data set on board members of the largest Danish Corporations in the period 1970 – 2023.

  • Help collect and clean a data set containing accounting information from annual reports on the largest Danish Corporations in the period 1970 – 2023.

  • If you are interested in coding and have strong coding skills, we imagine that a task could be to work on automating the data-cleaning process of annual reports.

Qualifications
We are looking for persons with a historical interest, who enjoy collecting data from dusty old books. We imagine that you either study a BA or MA in social science (such as Sociology, Political Science, Social Data Science, or Business Adminstration) or History and have strong quantitative skills or that you study a BA or MA in history and have a strong interest in Danish corporate history.

We generally expect that you:

  • Are structured, and patient, and that you take pride in delivering a well-crafted product as the work requires thoroughness to ensure high data quality in the research project.

  • Read and write in Danish as the data sources will be in Danish.

  • Have experience structuring and working with data in Excel.

  • It is an advantage if you have proficient R (or Python) skills and have an interest in quantitative data analysis.

We offer
We offer a position where you can get to know the world of research. You will get the opportunity to train and develop your professional skills and strengthen your professional network. By agreement, you can use data from the project in projects such as your BA or MA thesis, and we offer to assist you with project supervision if you are interested. We also gladly help you develop your R skills or learn new analytical skills if this id of interest to you.

Payment and hire
Employment will take place according to the HK organization agreement and the Joint Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and Public Employees’ Organizations (OAO-S Joint Agreement).

The salary is between DKK 132,68 to DKK 139,19 and depends on previous employment within the office subject and level of education.
