About SEED Foundation: SEED Foundation is a registered NGO in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. SEED’s mission is to protect, empower, and support the recovery of survivors of violence and others at risk. SEED is committed to delivering high quality, holistic approaches, which combine international expertise and local know-how to achieve results for the people of Iraq and Kurdistan Region. SEED’s programming focuses on three key objectives: 1) the delivery of transformational, comprehensive services including case management, mental health, and legal services, as well as psychosocial support activities; 2) strengthening the capacity of service providers through education, training, and capacity-development programs; and 3) promoting policy and social change to strengthen the rights of, and protections for, vulnerable groups and individuals through public awareness, technical assistance, and advocacy.
Role of the MHPSS Technical Coordinator:
The MHPSS Technical Coordinator will provide technical leadership and guidance on the
implementation of MHPSS services in camp and non-camp settings through technical
supervision of mental health (MH) services and in close coordination with SDCs, PSDMS,
Technical Advisors, PSS and Community Development Manager, Program Directors, and Program
Managers across SEED as needed. The MHPSS Technical Coordinator will provide clinical
supervision to psychologists and will ensure the delivery of high quality community based
mental health services that are in accordance with international ethical standards. The MHPSS
Technical Coordinator will also contribute to the development of MH and PSS interventions and
activities including psychoeducation, structured recreational activities, MH messaging, and
emotional support groups according to the needs per community and must do so in
coordination with the MHPSS TA and PSS and Community Development Manager. The MHPSS
Technical Coordinator will contribute to capacity building of service delivery staff through
developing, leading, and delivering MH trainings. In addition, the MHPSS Technical Coordinator
will support the wellbeing program across all locations through delivering self care activities
such as debriefings. The MHPSS Technical Coordinator will report to the MHPSS Advisor and will
work in close collaboration within the Service Delivery Department.
Specific Tasks:
Clinical Supervision and PSS Support (50%):
- Oversee implementation of MHPSS activities and ensure they are consistent with SEED objectives and strategies, and consult with the MHPSS TA for any changes
- Provide clinical supervision and technical support to other psychologists on clients’ psychological assessment and treatment in line with SEED’s Supervision Guidelines, including 1-on-1, group and field supervision.
- Ensure that a trauma-informed, survivor-centered approach is applied in all mental health services provided by the psychologists.
- Lead on training Psychologists on specialized MH interventions such as Group and Family Therapy and emotional support groups
- Contribute to the development of PSS curriculum modules; and tailoring of modules based on target gender, and age groups.
- Participate in regular supervision meetings with the MHPSS TA
Technical Leadership and Capacity Building (30%):
- Ensure regular field visits to all SEED centers; providing technical support and guidance on complex cases
- Participate in case conferences across all locations
- Evaluate staff competencies, identify capacity building needs and feed into development of services, guidances and SEED MH standards for staff.
- Design, train, deliver, monitor, and coach SEED staff on mental health trainings according to assessed gaps and needs under MHPSS
- Support the MHPSS TA on the development, review and implementation of policies, tools, interventions, protocols, processes, materials and guidance for MHPSS services
- Support the MHPSS TA in developing guidance and standards for MHPSS services consistent with international best practice and identify, share and adapt resources and materials.
- Contribute to the staff well-being program through self care initiatives and debriefings for staff across all locations
- Provide external trainings as needed and requested
- Ensure the recruitment, interviewing, and onboarding of MH staff
Coordination & Representation (10%):
- Strengthen referrals between case management, psychosocial services, and mental health interventions. This includes briefing staff in the identification of needs of clients and available services for clients, ensuring psychologists adopt accurate interventions with the appropriate level of support.
- Provide organizational representation at working groups, media and donor visits, and other areas as needed.
- Support the development of strategic partnerships, maintain effective relations, and work closely with partners and key stakeholders.
- Help to maintain connections between SEED and the MHPSS WGS through coordinating closely on potential referrals, clients’ needs, and addressing gaps in service provision.
- Perform other duties as necessary, as assigned by the supervisor.
Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (10%):
- Assess quality of programming and quality of services and make recommendations to strengthen programming and quality of services.
- Ensure all MHPSS activities are properly monitored, documented, evaluated, and reported on.
- Support program M&E, including development of tools, to ensure that M&E systems provide adequate feedback on MHPSS interventions
- Make recommendations for program development and course correction
- Contribute to quality reporting
Qualifications & Preferred Skills
- Master’s degree in psychology from a recognized university, a masters degree is desirable
- Experienced in EMDR, CBT, NET, and other mental health approaches
- A minimum of 7 years working experience as psychotherapists or clinical psychologists is and experience working with survivors of conflict, rights violations, GBV and TIP, as well as children and in Children Associated with Armed Forces and Armed Groups (CAAFAAG)
- At least three years of experience in supervising other psychologists providing on the job
- Demonstrated capacity to supervise other psychologists, High standard of spoken and written Arabic and Kurdish, with English a plus.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to gain trust and build relationships with team members and clients
- Ability to work in a stressful setting and adapt quickly to a changing environment
- Openness to diversity are considered essential requirements
- Strong organizational skills (i.e. planning, time management, ability to prioritize, problem solving, etc.)
- Strong advocacy and coordination skills internally and with external stakeholders
- Demonstrated commitment to human rights.
- High regard toward preserving confidentiality of work-related information and data.
