Champions for Wildlife, a small nonprofit established in January 2022, seeks a dynamic individual for the Education & Volunteer Coordinator role. Our mission is to inspire youth to champion wildlife conservation through art and education. This full-time hybrid position (40 hours per week) works with educators and volunteers to deliver Wild for Art programs in schools and communities. PLEASE NOTE: Current residency in Polk or Henderson County, North Carolina or within 30 minutes drive.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver engaging environmental education classes, workshops, and sessions integrating art for K-8th grade students.
  • Teach after-school programs, in-class sessions, summer programs, library sessions, and homeschool groups.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive learning environment encouraging curiosity, exploration, and creative expression.
  • Coordinate volunteer recruitment, training, and management for educational events and community outreach activities.
  • Collaborate with the Education Coordinator to develop educational resources, lesson plans, and curriculum materials aligned with state standards.
  • Assist in evaluating the effectiveness of educational programs and communication strategies through data analysis and feedback mechanisms.
  • Develop and implement strategies for recruiting volunteers and fostering a positive volunteer community.
  • Manage volunteer schedules, assignments, and communications to ensure seamless program coordination.
  • Collaborate with staff to integrate volunteers into program activities and provide necessary support.
  • Evaluate and improve volunteer program effectiveness.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Preferred two years of teaching or public presenting experience.
  • Current residency in Polk or Henderson County or within 30 minutes drive.
  • Experience in environmental education, preferably K-8.
  • Background check required.
  • Passion for wildlife conservation and creative teaching.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Volunteer coordination or management experience.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace including Gmail, Google Sheets, Docs, and Drive. Experience using Monday.com, Better Impact or Keela a plus.
  • Knowledge of Common Core & NC Essential Standards, with experience in Science and Environmental Education preferred.
  • Flexibility for occasional travel within Western NC and surrounding states.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to transportation.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends for events and outreach activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in an environment that values free-thinking and creativity over strict structure, with a willingness to adapt and contribute ideas in a dynamic, non-traditional setting.
  • Bilingual is a plus.
