Workday Payroll Analyst (Remote)

The Opportunity

The Workday Payroll Analyst is the assistant to the technical lead for the implementation, testing, configuration, maintenance, and upgrades of information technology projects for the University Payroll Office, including but not limited to:  Workday and Kuali Systems, as well as new self-service applications. 

Primary focus of this position includes payroll production support, working closely with Payroll management including the Director and other technical staff.  Assist with conducting system tests when new Workday functionality is delivered, which can be during weekly system updates, or biannually during the Workday scheduled updates.  Provide end-user technical support as well as documenting new and existing processes.  Create ad-hoc reports and integrations needed in support of on-going payroll processing. Assist HRIS with payroll requests as needed. Provide general customer service to other divisions and departments as well as employees. 

Additional duties include payroll production support which consists of providing front-line customer service and performing payroll functions, as well as generating required and ad-hoc reports, and maintaining secure and proper storage of sensitive documentation. Be the backup person for Kuali processing, updates, testing and yearly tasks as needed.

What We Need

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or related field with four (4) to six (6) years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess well-developed analytical, critical thinking, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in software testing, tools, and utilities, and performing quality assurance methodologies.
  • Strong organizational and communication (listening, verbal, written) skills, with ability to train others of varying levels of technical expertise and knowledge.
  • Ability and desire to learn new technical skills and technologies.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Work effectively and respond quickly and accurately within teams as well as independently in a customer-oriented, deadline-driven environment. 
  • Ability to multi-task effectively with minimal supervisory oversight. 
  • Ability to prepare written training materials, documentation, FAQs, various how-to’s, etc. is essential.
  • Strong PC skills including demonstrated experience with standard office productivity tools (Excel, Access, Word).
  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of payroll tax and wage and hour regulatory compliance desired
  • Experience with high volume, multi-state payrolls desired, but not required.
  • Strong knowledge of Workday Payroll, Time Tracking and Workday reports and their relationship to HCM and Absence.
  • Familiarity with a cloud-based time and attendance system is desired.
  • Strong knowledge of Kuali Financial Systems (KFS) and accounting concepts is a plus. 
  • Knowledge of other University systems and policies very beneficial.
  • Basic knowledge of project management a plus. 
  • Prior experience designing/delivering technical training and documenting processes helpful.
