Do you have a passion to help manage and preserve California’s natural resources while mindful of differential equity to access and enjoyment of those resources? Does the thought of consulting with scientists for data contributing to management of salmon, lobster, Bighorn Sheep, waterfowl (just to name a few), as well as lands such as Marine Protected Areas and Ecological Reserves excite you?

The Regulations Unit at the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) is uniquely positioned to work with nearly all CDFW programs to address marine, land, water, fish, and wildlife issues of substantial complexity and statewide significance. We are seeking inspired applicants to join our Unit as the Natural Resources Economist to evaluate and disclose the economic and fiscal impacts of proposed regulations on individuals, businesses, and communities for game harvest, aquaculture, and natural resource protection. This permanent full-time position (with benefits & hybrid telework options) works in close coordination with CDFW and Fish and Game Commission to advance regulatory actions which directly affect management and conservation of our state’s resources.

You would have the opportunity to assist with outreach for increased access and transparency to different communities and tribal nations. We seek a candidate who is experienced in economic impact assessment, cost-benefit analysis, ecosystem valuation relative to natural resource management, and/or the commercial fishing or related sectors, as well as experienced working in multi-disciplinary teams under specific deadlines, and who brings a high degree of personal initiative, dependability, professionalism, and integrity to the table.
