Sanitation and Water for All (SWA) is a global alliance of over 400 national governments, donors, civil society organizations and other development partners working together to catalyze political leadership and action, improve accountability and use scarce resources more effectively. The ultimate goal of the Partnership is to achieve universal access to water supply and sanitation.

The Secretariat of the SWA global partnership is hosted by UNICEF at its Headquarters in New York and Geneva. The SWA Secretariat is responsible for supporting the Steering Committee, Vice-Chair and Chair, promoting the country-level engagement of partners, and organizing global High-level Meetings of finance and sector ministers.

How can you make a difference? 

PURPOSE OF THE CONSULTANCY

Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Senior Adviser on Policy and Strategy, the consultant will be responsible for supporting SWA’s digital presence on all relevant channels, including increasing the impact of SWA’s events, campaigns, and initiatives.
In particular, the consultant will undertake the following tasks :
– Strategic advice through monthly analytics of SWA website and social media data
– Drafting of content and other digital materials for posting on SWA and CEO channels
– Developing a plan for the improvement of the website, and regular updating of the website
– Contributing to communications tasks related to the LAC FMM

  1. Monthly review of website and social media data and analytics sent to Senior Adviser on Policy and Strategy, including, if relevant, recommendations to improve performance

Drafting content and publication on digital channels
  1. Develop weekly drafts of social media posts across all platforms including for the CEO accounts, to be proposed to CEO/Head of Policy team
  2. Following approval, publish daily content: at least 1 post per day on X/Twitter, FB, and LinkedIn for the corporate accounts; and 3 times per week on all CEO accounts.
  3. Design digital materials (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) to support digital content: 5 banners and 5 social media visual cards for 3 campaigns: International Women’s Day, Anniversary of the Human Rights to Water and Sanitation
  4. Live coverage of 3 webinars and events (excluding FMM)

  1. Develop 1 plan to improve user experience on website
  2. Publish articles in 3 languages, previously approved (up to 3/week)
  3. Add up to 5 events and webinars to calendar and Knowledge Exchange webpages

  5. Live coverage of 3 virtual events and webinars

Deliverable 4:
In-person comms support of the 2024 LAC FMM

Under the guidance of the Senior Adviser on Policy and Strategy:

  1. Live coverage of the event
  2. Maintain website updated with latest confirmations and news (up to 5 updates)
  3. Develop 1 draft post-event newsletter to be updated and sent after the event
  4. Draft and send 1-hour to go newsletter
  5. Develop 1 loop PPT with visuals from SWA and co-conveners and work with venue to ensure it shows in appropriate screens/projectors
  6. Record at least 5 interviews with partners (accompanied by the videographer) and 3 interviews with ministers
    Ensure SWA materials and branding (e.g., roll-ups) are properly displayed
  7. Provide Senior Adviser on Policy and Strategy with updated data (social media analytics, livestream participants, etc.) 2 days following event

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

  • Advanced university degree in communications, journalism, public relations, international relations, or other related fields including (but not limited to) graphic design,visual arts, or media-oriented relevant field or discipline is required.
    *A first-level university degree in a relevant field combined with 2 additional years of professional experience above the minimum required may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in the field of digital communications, including managing social media and digital platforms.
  • Previous experience in successfully promoting and leveraging organizations and/ or initiatives in the non-profit sector.
  • Outstanding skills in content management and communications and understanding of multimedia and social media required.
  • Knowledge of Drupal preferred.
  • Understanding of, inter alia, the following digital tools an advantage: Google Ads, Trello, Facebook Business Manager, and MailChimp.
  • Knowledge of other UN Languages, in particular French and Spanish, of an advantage.

Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws. 

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
