Clackamas Community College seeks to hire a part-time Art Studio Technician. This is a limited duration position for the Spring term 2024. This position is a studio technician whose jobs include mixing glazes, recycling clay, loading and firing kilns and maintaining studio spaces/ art classrooms in the Art Center.

Essential Job Functions:

A qualified candidate would be able to perform essential jobs duties in a ceramics studio which include but are not limited to: mixing glazes, recycling clay, loading/ unloading and firing kilns and maintaining studio spaces/ art classrooms in the Art Center. Other job duties include cleaning and organizing classroom and kiln shed spaces. Desired qualifications include knowledge of loading and firing gas and electric kilns, mixing glazes and recycling clay using a pug mill. 

Auxiliary Job Functions:

May provide assistance to other department personnel as workload and staffing levels dictate. Maintain proficiency by attending training and meetings, reading materials, and meeting with others in area of responsibility.  Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and experience in mixing glazes, recycling clay and loading and firing kilns. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of loading and firing gas and electric kilns, mixing glazes and recycling clay using a pug mill.

Physical Demands of the Position:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, communicate, reach, and manipulate objects. The position requires mobility, including the use of step stools in order to load kilns and access materials in the ceramics studio. Duties may involve moving materials weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis such as clay, kiln shelves and ceramic work. Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while operating equipment such as loading kilns, moving clay and clay materials, mopping floors, and recycling clay. 

Working Conditions: 

Work environment includes classroom, lab, or other setting as appropriate.  

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervision of other personnel is not a typical function assigned to this position. May provide training and orientation to newly assigned personnel, and may assign work to student workers.  

Supervision Received:

Supervision by Art Department chair.
