POSITION SUMMARY

The Bilingual Education Navigator supports the current ODE-GYO grant and is a limited-duration position funded by that grant. This position offers candidates the opportunity to join a statewide collaborative team of college, state, and community partners committed to increasing access and success for individuals pursuing Education pathways and Teacher Licensure in K-12 education. This individual will engage in community outreach and information events for school district personnel and high school students, create and distribute marketing materials, and present education pathways and grant options at events. Additionally, this person will process grant funding and access student accounts. The Navigator provides 1-on-1 academic advising for education students, working closely with community and campus resources to identify supporting funding and services. These services include partnerships with other colleges, school districts, college academic and student affairs programs, and the wider statewide education network to ensure successful participant outcomes.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions:

Community Liaison for Events and Activities 

  • Develops campus relationships and referral processes to connect participants with targeted short-term and long-term education pathways.

  • Delivers presentations about program services, qualifications, and expectations to prospective students, community organizations, and on-campus partners

  • Serves as primary liaison with universities, community colleges, and School District partners to communicate grant partnerships, activities, outcomes, and recruitment materials

  • Independently organizes events, including events held in Spanish, including drafting correspondence and informational handouts for events that promote our education pathways and grant programs


Advising Support

  • Develops individualized academic plans for students entering educational pathways from a variety of starting points.

  • Serves students and faculty as a technical resource with information on education programs, pathways, and grant funding.

  • Provides 1-to-1 advising and support for students including connecting with internal and external funding resources.

  • Collaborates with all campus departments and outreach to help students recognize needs, identify barriers, and acknowledge values and strengths that contribute to their academic and career success.

  • Serves as an independent liaison with individuals/departments on campus, public agencies


Project Record Keeping and Data Management 

  • Receives, processes, and maintains various confidential records and databases requiring classification and compilation of varied information 

  • Coordinates the collection of data from multiple sources and enters appropriate data into databases for local, state and federal reporting. 

  • Maintains accurate records including student files and documentation, advising guides, transfer agreements, enrollment reports, and student databases.

  • Prepares drafts and compiles information for reports, including grant reporting. 

  • May supervise part-time hourly employees

Administrative Support

  • Recommends improvements to increase departmental effectiveness and efficiency 

  • Performs other related project activities of a similar nature or level 

  • Assists with special reports and projects related to education grants and programs (e.g. grant reports, marketing, and enrollment reports). 

  • Researches and compiles data for various purposes including budgets, reports, surveys, and student enrollment and completion 

  • Manages and prioritizes multiple department tasks or projects

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:

High School diploma/GED

-AND-

Three years of clerical experience

-AND-

Three years of experience providing customer service to the public in a higher education setting

-AND-

Bilingual English/Spanish

–OR–

Associate’s Degree from an accredited institution

-AND-

One-year clerical experience

-AND-

One year of experience providing customer service to the public in a higher education setting

-AND-

Bilingual English/Spanish

  • Ability to learn quickly and assimilate information, to be flexible, utilize strong communication skills, recognize when client/student referral is appropriate or necessary, and work independently and as a team member

  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse population of students and stakeholders

  • Knowledge of community college systems and philosophy

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field

  • One year of experience working directly with students in higher education

  • Experience working on Federal, State, and/or local grants including data management

  • Experience advising students about school resources and support services 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

SCHEDULE & MODALITY

Based on individual assessment, business needs, supervisory discretion and/or college directives, a percentage of the duties of this position may be performed remotely.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • This is a 100%, 12-month classified assignment of the B3 band and grade. This position is grant-funded and has an end date of June 30, 2025. Continuation of position is contingent on grant funds. 
  • Please note: The college is currently undertaking a comprehensive classification and compensation study.  No employee will lose base pay because of this study, however, classification titles and pay grades may change.  The successful candidate will receive notice of all changes prior to implementation which is currently projected for the Summer of 2024.
  • This position has a 6-month probationary period
  • All positions at Chemeketa are required to be available for work onsite as requested by the college.
  • Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include evenings and/or weekends
  • This position may require the use of your personal vehicle for transportation between campus locations
  • If requested, requires the provision of official transcripts upon hire
  • Employees must maintain Oregon, Washington or Idaho residency as a condition of employment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

Sedentary Work:   Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary requirements are met.

PUBLIC SERVICE LOAN FORGIVENESS

Chemeketa Community College is considered a qualifying public employer for the purposes of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, full-time employees working at the College may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance on Direct Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan.
