The Need

For 25 years, IJM has pioneered the work to protect vulnerable people from violence. 9 out of 9 times in the last decade, IJM’s Justice System Strengthening Projects have reduced slavery and violence between 50 and 85% for very large populations of people in poverty. As we grow to expand our impact to protect 500 million people from violence by 2030, we are seeking a Lead, Marketing and Communications, Latin America to support global teams in communicating about IJM’s work in the Latin America region, by sourcing and developing compelling content and resources to best represent the work we do across the region.

 

This role will provide input on how to improve the content pipeline – including partnering with staff and leading content development – and will serve as a key partner to global teams. The incumbent will craft and maintain global brand and storytelling standards – helping IJM become a leader in innovative, ethical storytelling worldwide. By leading storytelling and content gathering in the Latin America region, this role will equip global teams with the tools needed to transport our constituents into the darkness and tangible hope of our work.

 

This position is onsite or hybrid (onsite Tuesdays & Thursdays) in the Washington, DC area. It reports to the Regional President, Latin America and candidates must have the right to work in the US.

 

 

Responsibilities:

Communication

  • Develop communication pieces that are shared with external audiences to promote IJM’s work.

  • Lead content development, innovating new and untold stories, and advising global teams on available story resources.

  • Work with country POCs and country leaders to develop more efficient processes for content gathering and development.

  • Produce and disseminate compelling content to showcase the work IJM Latin America does across the region.

 

Networking & Partnership

  • Partner with global, regional, and local teams, to streamline content and stories, and build a robust story and content catalogue.

  • Liaise global and regional/country office teams for initiatives, projects, requirements, etc. to improve the expected outcomes.

  • Influence country and hub level leadership so that they prioritize supporting the communications function and energize their staff to generate content, stories, and materials.

  • Participate in IJM’s community of spiritual formation.

 

Training and Development

  • Train Latin America region staff on global policies and standards related to brand, messaging, storytelling, etc. 

  • Develop training and tools to equip country offices staff to improve content story and content gathering processes.

 

Policies and Procedures

  • Provide input for the creation of new policies related to marketing and communications, while sharing local/regional needs of possible addenda or exceptions.

  • Promote and reinforce marketing and communications that are in effect.

 

Documentation, Reporting & Data Management

  • Maintain an updated database in the Global Content Bank.  

  • Coordinate the process to deliver breaking news and/or general news on a regular basis.

  • Update global and/or regional reports on their respective timelines and rhythms.  

  • Provide specific program information to fundraising teams.

 

Events and Logistics

  • Actively participate and develop content for different marketing campaigns throughout the year.

  • Act as a liaison between fundraising teams and country offices to facilitate donor’s visits to the field.

  • Represent the region in corporate prayer and support in the preparation of LATAM teams when invited to join.

 

 

Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, International Relations or related field;

  • 3-5 years of professional experience in writing (news, feature stories, etc.), internal messaging development, and editing;

  • Demonstrated experience initiating, coordinating, and executing simultaneous projects across cross-functional teams, with minimal supervision;

  • Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills; and

  • At least 1 year of experience living and working cross-culturally.

 

Technical Competencies

  • Excellent communication skills, with proven expertise in communicating complex ideas clearly to diverse audiences;

  • Experience in humanitarian or human rights work context;

  • Trauma-informed interviewing skills and survivor protection and well-being mindset preferred;

  • Knowledge of photography and videography, and basic photo editing preferred;

  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and of basic digital platforms; and

  • Proficient in both English and Spanish, written and spoken.
