Detailed Job Description:

The Financial Operations Advisor generates financial intelligence to guide strategic decision making and serves as an integral part of the fiscal team that supports the day-to-day operations of the Ohio Technology Consortium (OH-TECH). This position collaborates with partners throughout the organization to develop budgets, financial reports and projections, identify short- and long-term trends, support strategic initiatives and improve overall financial oversight through in-depth analysis and costing.

The Financial Operations Advisor will:

  • Manage the financial reporting for OH-TECH, including development of budget-to-actual reports, projections (long and short term) and various ad-hoc reports, as needed by OH-TECH and Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE) leadership.
  • Lead the development of reports and dashboards via Excel, Tableau and/or Workday for use by executive management to inform strategic decisions. Train executive management on how to use the reports to guide their decisions.
  • Manage the creation of cost-benefit and total cost analysis for OH-TECH services, trend analysis, predictive models, budget scenario planning, resource planning and analysis, capital planning, pricing models, cost-recovery models, charge-back models, labor rate development/analysis, total cost of ownership analysis.
  • Guide and support OH-TECH units in the development of business models to determine current and future service offerings.
  • Provide project management services to OH-TECH units, with a focus on budget development for various engineering projects to understand any short/long term financial impacts to the organization.
  • Works with the Senior Manager, Fiscal Operations, in the preparation of the OH-TECH enterprise budgets, including the state budget process for operational and capital funding.
  • Prepare OH-TECH’s research budgets and supporting documentation for upcoming proposals. Provide post-award financial support for awarded grants, including reports for Principal Investigators.  Meet with PI(s) to discuss financial position and make adjustments, as necessary, throughout the life of the award. 
  • Manage the entire OH-TECH general ledger, including full reconciliation, identification and initiation of accounting and payroll adjustments as needed, including accruals, fund transfers, and other entries.
  • Manage the monthly and year-end account closing activities, including general ledger review, creation of journal entries, and oversight of fiscal position, regularly reporting status to leadership.
  • Participate in OH-TECH state and national groups as required, including peer groups to share best in class experiences and learn via professional development

Required Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or similar discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • 6 years of financial management and reporting experience.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and Word skills.
  • Experience analyzing, interpreting and compiling information from a variety of sources.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical skills, critical thinking skills, attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Desired Education/Experience:

  • Master’s degree in business or equivalent discipline.
  • Workday experience.
  • Earnings operations experience. 
  • Financial analysis experience in an information technology organization.
  • Tableau experience.
