Why your role matters

The Research Grants and Contracts (RCG) teams contribute to UNSW’s research performance and profile via the effective management of the University’s research income. RGC is the key link between UNSW researchers, executive and funding agencies such as the NHMRC, ARC, other government and non-government research funders, philanthropic competitive grant funders and industry partners. The RGC teams are a crucial component in the university’s ongoing strategy to increase knowledge exchange and towards meeting the S2025 aims.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Pre-Award, you’ll work with researchers and other team members to ensure that all UNSW grant applications are eligible and comply with sponsor requirements; have the requisite UNSW approvals; and are submitted on time before handing on to the Post Award team for on-going management.

Who you are

You can demonstrate your experience in high level research funding and program/project management or, an equivalent level of knowledge gained through a combination of education, training and/or experience, as well as the following skills and experience:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to negotiate and liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Providing creative and innovative solutions to problems whilst adhering to policy, governance and regulations.
  • Interpreting and applying complex policies and procedures.
  • The successful delivery of quality, professional, customer focused services and support to clients.
  • Highly developed organisational skills and ability to establish priorities, manage tasks and meet competing deadlines in a high-volume environment whilst maintaining attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Advanced proficiency in a range of computing skills including but not limited to the Office 365 suite, (Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint etc), and the ability to work effectively with the information management systems in the delivery of customer-focused services.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training
  • Previous experience in pre-award grant support will be highly valued.
