Position Focus:

Under the general direction of the Associate Director, Conflict of Interest Office, and with considerable latitude for discretion and independent judgment, this position will be responsible for ensuring institutional compliance with regulatory requirements and institutional policies related to Conflict of Interest (COI).  In addition to providing advice as to the interpretation and application of COI regulations and policies, this position will ensure conflicts of interest have been identified and then managed, reduced or eliminated in accordance with regulatory requirements and University policies.

Essential Duties

1.  Evaluate faculty, staff, and researchers’ financial disclosures for potential conflicts of interest and make an initial determination (based on relevant regulations/policy) as to whether potential conflicts of interest exist, complete and document reviews that can be expedited within own level of approval. 2.  Prioritize and process all COI reviews related to sponsored projects. 3.  Independently monitor faculty and investigator compliance with sponsored projects and/or activities management plans. 4.  Establish processes to ensure compliance with conflict of interest regulations/policies, including mechanisms to identify and track newly disclosed significant financial interests and/or instances of non-compliance. 5.  Research information to formulate precise case summaries and attend COI Committee meetings to synthesize complex discussions, produce meeting minutes, document management plans, and recommend appropriate courses of action. 6.  Compose COI Office/Committee correspondence to faculty, research personnel and deans/department chairs regarding conflict of interest determinations, management plans, Committee concerns or requests for supplemental information. 7.  Work proactively with the Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP) and various stakeholders (e.g., faculty, researchers, administrators) to ensure compliance with funding agency requirements/institutional policies required to facilitate the proposal submission and award set up processes. 8.  Maintain specialized knowledge of various conflict of interest regulations/policies/requirements needed to serve as an expert and trusted advisor to the COI Committee, deans, department chairs, faculty, administrators and staff in the interpretation and application of COI policies and procedures. 9.  Guide, mentor and oversee COI Office staff in the pre-review of disclosures and development of activity management plans. 10. Collaborate with various shareholders to elicit information, discuss sensitive information and develop workable solutions to meet COI regulations/requirements. 11.  Develop specialized conflict of interest management plans in collaboration with the COI Office Directors and/or COI Committee Chair. 12. Report managed conflicts to government agencies and other sponsors, as required. 13. Responsible for various auditing and tracking activities related to conflict of interest reviews/findings. 14. Develop content for and participate in training programs related to Conflicts of Interest. 15. Participate in other projects for the COI Office as necessary.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and 3 years of related professional work experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
