Offer Description

This thesis topic focuses on the creation of a unified computational framework to facilitate exploration and innovation in the field of distributed computing through the study of broadcast primitives as fundamental abstractions. It aims to determine how various distributed problems can be efficiently abstracted and solved using these primitives, in order to form a unified framework for the study of distributed problems. This research seeks to simplify the design and implementation of distributed systems, making these systems more accessible to non-expert engineers and facilitating the management of synchronization and data coherence. This work will strive to answer important open questions by proposing new algorithms or demonstrating impossibility theorems, such as the existence of broadcast abstractions “capturing” given distributed problems, and the expressivness of broadcast specifications to describe specific distributed computing problems.
