The Istanbul Regional Hub (IRH) supports UNDP’s analytical, programmatic, and policy advisory services in the countries of Central and South-eastern Europe, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), and Turkey.  The Centre coordinates projects and provides services in three main areas which are Democratic Governance, Poverty Reduction, and Energy and Environment. The IRH Security Focal Point (SFP) and under his supervision Local Security Associate (LSA) fulfills all tasks related to the management of safety and security for UNDP personnel in the Istanbul Regional Hub.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • The main task of an Intern will be to contribute to the accomplishment of various UNDP IRH Security initiatives including support to the SFP and LSA.
  • Main duties of an intern will be as follows:
  • Media monitoring and drafting of  Security updates.
  • Assistance with Security projects received from UNDP IRH Security Focal Point.
  • The development of template forms for easy storage of standard information and country updates, keeping databases up to date. 
  • Security assessments of buildings and development of emergency precautionary measures.
  • Updating Staff Security Databases related to access control, area warden, and unit-based headcount systems.
  • Interfacing with current technology to recommend better solutions for security challenges in the office.
  • Other required support to the work of IRH SFP and Security Associate.
Required Skills and Experience:
Education:
Applicants to the UNDP internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme, or higher);
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent);
  • Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation;
  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program.
Experience:
  • Previous related work experience in a national or an international entity would be an asset but is not required.
  • Experience in usage of databases or Security Notification Software is an asset.
Language skills:
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English;
  • Turkish or Russian language knowledge is an asset.
