Under the supervision of WRI Indonesia’s Political Economist, the Research Assistant will be responsible for supporting research and policy advocacy components within two key initiatives: (1) the Endowment Fund for Sustainability and (2) Developing New Provincial Pathways for Sustainability. His/her main responsibilities will include supporting data collection and conducting literature reviews for research related to the two initiatives. This also encompasses the responsibility to support engagement and advocacy activities for dissemination purposes. As part of a high-functioning research team, the Research Assistant will assist in integrating, documenting, and transforming a variety of data, research findings, and expert input into high-quality policy recommendations, knowledge products, and advocacy materials. In close collaboration with the WRI Papua Regional team, he/she will be based in Jakarta with office-flex working arrangement and will travel for research, engagement, and advocacy purposes to the provinces of Papua, Indonesia. 
Endowment Fund for Sustainability:  
  • Support lead researchers in the development of research manuscripts on endowment fund for sustainable development in Tanah Papua
  • Conduct data collection and performed analysis as necessary to support the achievement of project research goals
Economic Outcomes for the New Provinces Pathways:  
  • Supporting lead researchers for qualitative research and economic modelling activities at national and sub-national levels, including but not limited to collection of primary/secondary data and information, and stakeholder interviews
  • Mapping or Identification of development interventions, building policy scenarios, and producing research communication
  • Support lead researchers in the development of research manuscripts pertaining to system dynamic modeling for district sustainable development planning
Cross project parts:  
  • Literature and reference reviews
  • Participating in discussions/meetings with partner, experts, and other key stakeholders
  • Conduct coordination as necessary with Endowment Fund, New Provinces Pathways, local/regional teams in target districts and province in relate to project and/or research activities implementation
  • Assist in planning and implementation of workshops/FGDs/seminars related to the initiatives
  • Support the development of research publications and WRI knowledge products
  • Support the development of communications products in coordination with Communications team
What You Will Need :
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Economics, International Relations, Public Policy, or Sustainability Science with Cum Laude Predicate from Reputable Universities.
  • A minimum of 1 year of relevant research work experience, high-quality university-level experience will be an advantage
  • Familiarity and experience with climate and sustainability, particularly forestry, peatland and plantation issues in Indonesia.
  • Ability to support discrete elements of research projects with manager support, e.g. systematically reviewing and synthesizing existing literature; collecting, cleaning, organizing, analyzing and visualizing data.
  • Strong interests in sustainable development, sustainable financing, and green economy topics.
  • High attention to details and strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent communications skill both verbal and written in Bahasa Indonesia and English.
  • Extremely well organized and efficient.
  • Self-motivated and able to work both independently as well as part of team.
  • Flexible and highly responsible.
  • Prior exposure to econometrics and statistical tools such as STATA/R/SPSS is an asset.
  • Strong inter-personal skills, good sense of humour, and able to work with people from a variety of backgrounds.
  • High integrity, a passion for sustainability and sub-national development, and a good sense of humor are preferred.
  • Ability to travel when needed.
  • Legally able to work in Indonesia
