The Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy at the University of Virginia seeks applicants for a newly created position of Student and Career Services Coordinator. The Coordinator will play an integral role in supporting the collective goals of the team in developing undergraduate and graduate student leaders, from matriculation to graduation. They will engage daily with undergraduate and graduate policy students who are distinguished by their high level of engagement and service ethos.

Responsibilities: 

  • Serve as frontline employee for Student and Career Services Office, greeting students, employers, alumni, and other guests in a professional and engaging manner

  • Report to Associate Director of Student Services and Community Engagement on the progress of student services-related tasks, including student satisfaction surveys

  • Work with Associate Director of Student Services and Community Engagement to establish learning outcomes and assessment tools for student training, events, and programming

  • Provide timely and efficient business support to Student and Career services team members, processing reimbursements and receipts, making room reservations, and serving as a liaison between the Office and Events team members

  • Provide guidance to student leaders on organizational goals, promotional efforts, and social media

  • Promote student involvement in programs and activities; track participation and engagement

  • Maintain primary responsibility for all logistics related to weekly Batten Hour speaker series, including coordinating speaker travel, hotel reservations, food, and marketing 

  • Prepare budget reports related to ongoing initiatives as needed

  • Work with Student and Career Services and Communications colleagues to create and curate content for social media, and student newsletter and/or Frankly Speaking

  • Collaborate with Communications and IT colleagues to maintain timely information on student-interfacing portions of the Batten website

  • Provide practical support for all large-scale school-wide events, including orientation, Batten Builds, CIBO, alumni events, and graduation

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma and 4  years of administrative or student support experience. A Bachelor’s degree may substitute for experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, with outstanding writing skills

  • Knowledge of and demonstrated success using social media platforms for student communication

  • Ability to multi-task and organize, prioritize, and follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion with an attention to detail

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, other department staff, students, faculty, alumni, community partners, and employers

  • Ability to work flexible schedule, including some evenings

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to relate to a diverse population and use sound judgment when faced with difficult situations

  • Experience working in higher education

  • Knowledge of recruiting, job placement and/or career advising platforms

  • Experience developing and maintaining a project or annual budget

  • Familiarity with Canva

Anticipated hiring range: $21.01 – $25.22 / hour

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
