The development team is a dynamic group of highly skilled,
goal-focused individuals who, alongside program partners, continue
to achieve fundraising success by finding creative and unique ways
to inspire support across the organization. At this momentous time
in 92NY’s history, the scope and volume of the Development
Department’s work continues to expand exponentially, making it
imperative to continue growing the team’s staff resources such as
with this new role.

Position Summary

The Prospect Research Manager is responsible for staying abreast
of prospecting opportunities and regular areas of prime prospect
research in a pro-active manner. Reporting to the Director,
Development Operations and Research, and under the guidance and
direction of the Director of Prospect Research, this position
conducts comprehensive and proactive prospect research with the
goal of identifying new major giving and foundation prospects.

Major Accountabilities

  • Provide brief research profiles on donors making new gifts to
    92NY and share with appropriate development staff.
  • Prepare prospect research profiles for potential and identified
    major and mid-level gift prospects.
  • Regularly review internal 92NY attendee lists and external
    lists of peer organizations for potential mid-level and major
    giving prospects.
  • Identify the capacity, propensity, and affinity of major and
    mid-level donors and prospects with a focus on gleaning their
    outside giving and other philanthropic interests.
  • Conduct research on Foundations.
  • Create prospect research reports for prospect review meetings
    with major gift officers and regularly attend major gift team
    meetings to prioritize prospecting needs.
  • Regularly assess and review current prospect moves management;
    support gift officers in the refreshing and updating of their
    portfolios.
  • Provide oversight of the Tessitura database process for
    monitoring and tracking prospects.
  • Assist with prospect profiles of guests to cultivation and
    fundraising events.
  • In partnership with Development Officers, stay abreast of 92NY
    program initiatives to identify fundraising opportunities to ensure
    that ongoing funding needs are met through prospect pipelines.
  • Utilize the functionality in the Tessitura database, including
    reports and utilities and list manager, to build and analyze
    prospect lists for proactive and post-event research
    opportunities.

Experience, Skills and
Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 2-3 years of experience in prospect research, development,
    library research or information related field.
  • Strong computer and technical skills and demonstrated
    background in internet-based research.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite. Experience with
    relational databases and the ability to download and export
    information between systems.
  • Experience with Tessitura or another CRM such as Raiser’s
    Edge.
  • Knowledge of the range of resources available to prospect
    researchers and the ability to apply those resources in an
    organized and purposeful manner.
  • Understanding of local, regional, and national philanthropic,
    business, and foundation communities.
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize data from a wide variety of
    sources, and present the resulting information in a clear, concise,
    and well written summary.
  • Proficiency in internet research and data extraction, including
    fundraising databases and online services.
  • Knowledge of various prospect research and wealth screening
    platforms such as Iwave, Lexis-Nexis, Relationship Science
    (RelSci), Foundation Directory Online and GuideStar.
  • Ability to organize and manage a diverse range of assignments
    and projects with attention to detail and follow through.
  • Flexible work attitude and the ability to adjust to changing
    priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently.
  • Understanding of major gift fundraising fundamentals.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
    appropriately and with discretion.

Work Hours and Environment

40 hours/week; Monday to Friday, 9 am – 6 pm.

This position is approved to utilize a hybrid working model
which is subject to change in the future.

COMPENSATION RANGE

$60,000-70,000

The actual compensation offered will be based on a number of
factors including, but not limited to the qualifications of the
applicant, years of relevant experience, level of education
attained, and certifications or other professional licenses
held.
