The University of Virginia is seeking an experienced Finance Manager to join the Provost Budget & Finance Team in the Executive Vice President & Provost Office (EVPP). The EVPP plays a central role in supporting the university’s mission by overseeing academic affairs, faculty development, and institutional planning.

The Finance Manager will report to and work closely with the Associate Vice Provost for Budget & Financial Planning and be responsible for providing financial leadership and support to the Vice Provosts and the Provost Unit Directors. This person will also work with the Budget Manager to ensure the Provost Units are providing accurate forecasting in the Adaptive Planning system. They may serve in a crucial role assisting during the annual budget process.  The Finance Manager will develop professional relationships with the Provost Unit Directors and serve as their point of contact for financial analysis.  This person will be responsible for supporting financial planning, forecasting, and analysis, as well as providing strategic recommendations to the Associate Vice Provost for Budget & Financial Planning.  The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of the University’s financial principles, and the ability to communicate complex financial information effectively.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare financial reports for Vice Provosts and Provost Unit Directors, highlighting key budget versus actuals variance, and offering suggestions and recommendations.
  • Monitor and analyze financial performance against budget and forecast and communicate findings to the Associate Vice Provost for Budget & Financial Planning.
  • Develop and maintain financial models to support strategic initiatives and decision-making processes.
  • Provide variance analysis to identify key drivers of financial performance and communicate findings to the Associate Vice Provost for Budget & Financial Planning.
  • Oversee financial reporting processes, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with other departments to identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
  • Provide financial analysis and support for business development initiatives, including mergers and acquisitions and capital investments.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required. Preference will be given to those with a degree in Finance or Accounting.
  • Seven years of experience within in finance or accounting roles is required.
  • Five years of experience in a University RCM is required.
  • Strong proficiency in financial modeling, forecasting, and analysis.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to think strategically and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the desire to work in a team environment, with a track record of developing and mentoring finance professionals.

This position is in Charlottesville, VA with the ability to be hybrid with at least one day a week in the office in Charlottesville, VA.  

This position is a restricted position and is dependent upon project need, availability of funding and performance. Anticipated Hiring Range: $110,000 – $125,000 commensurate with education and experience. This is an Exempt level, benefited position. For more information on benefits, visit UVA benefits .
