SUMMARY:

The Electronic Resources and Metadata Manager, under direction of the Associate Dean, Collections and Discovery, manages the electronic resources workflow to ensure consistent and integrated access and coordinates the evaluation, acquisition, processing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of electronic resources, including journals, books, databases, and locally created content.

SUMMARY:

The Electronic Resources and Metadata Manager, under direction of the Associate Dean, Collections and Discovery, manages the electronic resources workflow to ensure consistent and integrated access and coordinates the evaluation, acquisition, processing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of electronic resources, including journals, books, databases, and locally created content.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages the life cycle of electronic resources such as databases, e-books, streaming video/media, and serials.
  • Oversees the acquisition and licensing of electronic resources, including renewal of serials and databases, setting up and monitoring databases trials, maintaining acquisitions data and records, and harvesting and analyzing electronic resource usage.
  • Supervises encumbrance and expenditures of funds for all library collections materials and assists in preparing fiscal year budget for collections.
  • Maintains orders, purchase orders, and financial documentation in the Integrated Library System (ExLibris Alma) and oversees payment of invoices and purchase orders with appropriate offices across campus.
  • Formulates, documents, and updates policies and procedures related to electronic resources.
  • Assists with troubleshooting and resolving e-resource access problems.
  • Coordinates and manages the development and implementation of metadata strategies for electronic and physical resources in all formats and languages, according to national and local standards. 
  • Provides copy cataloging and processing of physical collection materials and supervises the workflow.
  • Coordinates the loading and maintenance of bibliographic records for electronic and print resources. 
  • Works with vendors to ensure accessibility standards are met.  Submits ACR/VPATs to EIRAC for approval and submits and tracks ACR exceptions, as needed.  
  • Provides supervision and training for students and staff in resource management support.
  • Participates in continuing education and professional development opportunities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Five years of related experience. Knowledge of trends and practices in electronic resource management. Understanding of current and emerging models, practices, and tools as they relate to library acquisitions, licensing, and metadata management. Familiarity with library management systems supporting acquisitions and discovery functions, such as integrated library systems (ILS), knowledge bases, electronic resource management systems (ERMS), issue tracking systems, or discovery interfaces.
  • Ability to: Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Strong verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Licensing/Professional Certifications: N/A
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to move medium weight (20 pounds) boxes, books, heavy book truck or similar items.
  • Other Requirements: Ability to handle material which can contain dust or microscopic mold spores.

PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:

Experience with ExLibris products (Alma, Primo, Leganto, etc.), metadata standards, and institutional repositories.  Alma Certified Administrator.  Familiarity with trends and practices in descriptive and administrative metadata for library resources. Relevant library acquisitions and licensing experience.
