STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Advanced University degree in Research, Sociology, Social Development, Economics or Performance Management or other relevant field, or first university degree with additional years of relevant work experience and/or training/courses

Language: Fluency (level C) in English language

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT

Reporting to the Head of Research Assessment and Monitoring, the Vulnerability, Assessment and Monitoring (VAM) and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Associate will help generate evidence across the Country Strategic Plan (CSP). the position holder will play an important role in assisting WFP, the government and other stakeholders to better understand and prepare for food security and vulnerability analysis to protect the lives and livelihoods of vulnerable populations. the incumbent will help to build national analytics and monitoring capacities at the government and community levels by leveraging VAM’s internal tools and expertise. this will guarantee that WFP establishes itself as a reliable resource for vulnerability assessment and mapping throughout the country.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  1. Provide WFP with timely food security and vulnerability information by maintaining and updating databases of spatial and socio-economic data and developing mechanisms for sharing data.
  2. Provide WFP with the necessary GIS and mapping services including preparation of thematic (i.e., analytical) maps that support country-level operational functions, mapping of hotspots, etc.
  3. Play a key role in the annual vulnerability assessments providing required technical support to Government and other stakeholders as well as lead joint food security assessments with relevant stakeholders.
  4. Lead Joint Needs Assessments, Joint Assessment Mission and vulnerability targeting for WFP operations including refugee response.
  5. Participate in the design and implementation of WFP programs with particular emphasis on problem analysis, providing recommendations on targeting of such assistance along geographic, sectoral, or socio-economic lines and well as conducting beneficiary verification.
  6. Coordinate with government departments, UN, NGOs, and other relevant agencies on food security early warning information, contingency planning and response activities and provide synthesized information to WFP.
  7. Transfer skills and develop sustainable capacity in food security analysis and information management systems in relevant government institutions and local partners.

OTHER SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to analyze and translate numerical data to show WFP’s outcomes and impact against the objectives; ability to explain WFP projects and operations to counterparts and to communicate with Government and partners clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to understand the cultural and political environment and to work well with colleagues

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

  • At least three years of progressively responsible professional post graduate experience in research, monitoring or programme management.
  • Experience in analysis using statistical software, specifically SPSS and GIS software.
  • Research experience using variety of analytical tools and methods for causality analysis, forecasting, and other data modeling needs.
  • Performed research, monitoring, evaluations and assessments at multiple field locations.
