Global Head of Technical Consultancy
The Global Head of Technical Consulting (GHoTC) leads our global technical consultancy team of specialist, SME consultants and solutions architects. Delivering highly specialised technical consultancy services to our clients, the ideal candidate will be a stand-out leader with outstanding technical expertise, strong commercial acumen and a demonstrable track-record of delivering sound technical services & solutions globally, with a proactive desire to build Tomorrow’s Digital Planet.
The GHoTC reports to the CTO and COO, with dual reporting responsibilities for service/program scope and delivery, strategy/vision and execution (CTO), and commercial, financial, people & talent and business operational aspects (COO).
Responsibilities
As a senior leader in FPC the GHoTC shall be responsible for the Technical Consultancy Function, namely in respect to (but not limited to), function:
- Team Leadership
- Technical Delivery Management
- Commercial Management
- Governance & Compliance
- Business Development
Leadership
The GHoTC shall lead and manage our Technical Consultancy Services, with accountability for the technical delivery and strategic direction, management and development of the Technical Consultancy team, this includes:
- Leading and managing our Technical Consulting services globally, with responsibility for line management and development of all team members, including both direct and indirect reports, ensuring you:
- Manage team performance through effective objective-setting, delegation, communication and through performance appraisals
- Devise team growth plans through active promotion of our learning and development program
- Support the growth recruitment process through participation in the interview and assessment process as required for delivery of FPC growth objectives
- Monitor and report on function performance against agreed targets, compliance requirements and in line with FPC strategic objectives
- Oversee the successful delivery of Technical Consultancy contracts, ensuring high-quality, professional and technically sound deliverables to clients, through:
- Building and maintaining strong, trusted relationships with clients, through the understanding of requirements and business objectives. Working proactively to meet or exceed expectations, in respect of time, quality, cost and communication.
- Working collaboratively across the organisation to ensure that the Technical Consultancy function successfully delivers services for all FPC programs and projects
- Ensuring service delivery meets the contractual obligations together with any other relevant client-side documents as agreed with our clients with particular emphasis on achieving delivery of targets (KPI’s / SLA’s)
- Actively manage contracts to ensure that you:
- Identify, evaluate and manage all risks to the company’s people, finances and reputation
- Maintain awareness of, and manage, all challenges to FPC’s strategy and implement effective risk management as required
- Develop, maintain and implement a Technical Consulting strategy that is capable of:
- Establishing long-term growth through, contribution to the development of future services, capabilities and solutions, in conjunction with our Innovation Board
- Maintaining and improving our capability in delivering strategic technical and industry expertise to our clients
- Supporting, advising, and collaborating on the latest technologies, initiatives and solutions, processes and standards for our clients
- Enhancing our brand reputation throughout the market, both within Technical Consulting and across the wider business capabilities
Technical Delivery Management
The HoTC is accountable for all technical matters delivered by the Technical Consulting function, this includes (but is not limited to) ensuring:
- Technical deliverables, designs and services are in line with internal, client and local/regional technical strategy, standards, specifications and guidelines
- Appropriate and effective quality assurance of technical deliverables prior to release, including technical strategy, architectural and design peer reviews and approvals
- Alignment of the Technical Consulting team’s technical and professional skills in order to meet current and future delivery requirements
- FPC technical delivery standards, processes and procedures are fit for purposes
- Quality management and continual improvement of the above
Commercial
- Working with Business Operations, ensure adherence to financial processes,procedures and policies
- Provide commercial and performance management of all FPC services on a per-contract basis, ensuring that delivery teams meet commercial and delivery targets and escalate issues appropriately to Program Management
- Accountable for ensuring the commercial appropriateness and technical viability of FPC services for all Technical Consulting proposals and contracts / Scope of works
- Support Program Management in maintaining full awareness of the commercial status of all contracts fulfilled by the Technical Consulting function
- Manage the allocation and ensuring effective utilisation of resources for all Technical Consulting contracts, in full consideration of associated commercials, while liasing with other team leaders across FPC
Governance
- Ensure compliance with standards (internal/external) in accordance with legislation and guidelines pertinent to the company’s role as an employer
- Recommend changes to policies and procedures to improve governance and compliance
Business Development
As a senior leader within the Technical Consulting function the GHoTC shall, in conjunction with our executive leadership and business development teams:
- Support the business development team in business development activities, including:
- Proactively identify, develop and support new business development opportunities and contribute to strategic client account planning. This may include accessing your professional network to seek leads/opportunities that may be relevant to our integrated services
- Provide input to the business development strategy and campaigns based on a strong understanding of the needs and priorities of our industry and clients
- Support the tender process including bid & proposal development, in particular commercial / financial planning, delivery and resource planning, scope development and delivering client presentations
- Reviewing / agreeing client and FPC commercial documentation, including but not limited to engagement letters, SoWs/Task Orders, program delivery requirements, scope definition, KPIs/SLAs and associated client / industry specification
- Nurture and maintain key client/stakeholder relationships that are essential to the retention, growth and development of our clients
- Represent FPC in the market, by building and maintaining partnerships with relevant industry organisations across all regions to enhance the reputation and standing of the company
Requirements
The HoTC should possess experience and qualifications aligned with the following:
- Minimum 10 years Digital / Smart Buildings or relevant industry, with experience in a senior consultancy or solutions business e.g. Senior Consultant, Lead Designer, Program Manager or Head of function
- Proven track record in Digital Buildings / IoT or related industry, working with world leading clients at a global scale with mixed real estate portfolios (e.g. Commercial Real Estate, Pharmaceutical, Industrial, Data Centres, etc.)
- Strong technical program management skills with experience managing complex projects
- Leading the development of coordinated Smart Buildings / MEP Controls designs
- Excellent global team management skills, with the ability to lead and motivate a technical team of senior consultants, architects and engineers
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with experience building and maintaining strong client relationships with an ability to navigate complex blue chip organisations, whilst communicating complex technical information in a clear and concise manner
- Ability to translate both client business needs and complex technical solutions into the successful delivery of effective technical solutions
- Experienced in supporting business development teams skills, with new business opportunities, including proposal development, estimating and presentation
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field, or demonstrable equivalent professional experience
- Competent using Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office software applications
In addition to the above, it is desirable if the HoTC has experience or qualifications in the design, delivery and operation of Digital Buildings / IoT related systems:
- Professional certifications in relevant digital / smart building solutions and/or related Industry qualifications (e.g. LEED AP, WELL AP, BREEAM Assessor, WiredScore, etc.)
- Implementation and/or use of Cloud Platforms (Google, Microsoft, Amazon) and Data Analytics
