The Conservation Volunteers – The Community Volunteering Charity

Every day TCV works across the UK to create healthier and happier communities for everyone –
communities where our activities have a lasting impact on people’s health, prospects and
outdoor places.

About the role:

Building on the success of previous projects, we’re thrilled to continue our partnership with
the Cumbernauld Living Landscape to realise our long-term vision of improving Cumbernauld’s
green spaces for both people and wildlife. This project aims to help everyone in the community
connect with the nature on their doorstep through various initiatives.

As a Senior Project Officer, you will play a pivotal role in the success of this project. Your
primary focus will be on managing four interconnected workstreams;

  1. Nurturing Nature: Improving greenspaces and waterways within Cumbernauld Living Landscape
for biodiversity, including enhancing habitat connectivity.
  2. Natural Benefits: Connecting people to maximise the well-being benefits of healthy
greenspaces, advocating for green infrastructure across the town, and enhancing climate
    adaptation through Nature-Based Solutions.
  3. Nature Counts: Implementing a program of community science for robust, long-term
biodiversity monitoring and connecting local people to nature.
  4. Nature Network: Providing inspiration and information to enable individuals, communities,
volunteer organisations, and land managers to take targeted positive action for nature.

This role promises an ever-changing dynamic where each day presents unique opportunities to
interact with the local community. Some key features of the role includes;

  1. Identifying crucial referral partners to facilitate the development of activities focused
    on enhancing employability.
  2. Conducting taster sessions as part of the consultation process.
  3. Leading guided walks, integrating consultation efforts.
  4. Conducting a survey of garden escapees on the outskirts of Greenspaces, involving
volunteers to aid in the development of community engagement initiatives aimed at removing
    Invasive Non-Native Species.
  5. Analysing and presenting consultation findings during the Development phase to guide
    implementation.
  6. Collaborating with Sanctuary Scotland to devise a Trauma-informed training program for
project staff and support roles across partner organisations, ensuring the integration of
    trauma-informed practices.

A bit more about us:

We recognise that each community and the people living there have different needs. Whether
improving wellbeing, conserving a well-loved outdoor space or bringing people together to
promote social cohesion and combat loneliness, TCV works together with communities to deliver
practical solutions to the real life challenges they face.

For over 50 years we have adapted our work with volunteers to reflect the changing needs of
communities in the UK and, by giving people a sense of purpose and belonging, we have empowered
them to take control of their lives and outdoor spaces for the benefit of all.

Whilst our activities vary, our inclusive approach has remained consistent; bringing people and
places together to create happy, healthy and connected communities for everyone.
