Summary of Job Duties:

The Licensed Optician provides comprehensive support for retail optical shop operations, including designing, fitting, and adapting lenses and frames based on prescriptions. They assist patients in frame selection, ensure proper fit, and handle adjustments and repairs. Additionally, they prioritize customer service, maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and positive relationships with stakeholders.

  • High school, GED, or formal educational Equivalent

  • 2 years ophthalmic experience

  • Current AR Optician license

Preferred Qualifications

  • COA or COMT certification preferred

Additional Information:

The Licensed Optician provides administrative and technical support for retail optical shop responsibilities. Will design, measure, fit, and adapt lenses and frames for patients according to optical prescriptions. Optician is responsible for assisting patients with selecting frames, ensuring proper fit and making adjustments and repairs to eyewear. Other responsibilities include but not limited to; maintenance of product inventory, maintenance of electronic patient files, generating patient encounter forms. 

Patient Care: Interpreting optical prescriptions written by optometrists or ophthalmologists; advise patients on lens treatments, frames, and styling.

Inventory: Select, manage, and order a range of optical products; will monitor routine visits from optical sales reps; Maintain optical inventory of frames and accessories using Officemate software; and  participate in annual physical inventory count. 

Shop Operations: Arrange and continuously maintain frame boards and shop displays; organize and scan documents for electronic patient files; verify lab invoices for correct lens pricing and credits; track promotional sales and prescription remakes, create patient encounter forms using Officemate software, provide backup support for posting payments; and compile payment transactions for the daily deposit. Other duties as assigned.

Customer Service:  Interacts with and assists the public in a professional and friendly manner as needed. Demonstrates effective communication skills; communicates accurate and complete information; maintains strict confidentiality when necessary.
