How can you make a difference?
UNICEF Thailand Country Office is establishing a roster of national or international simultaneous translators to provide professional support in simultaneous translation between English and Thai languages during workshops and meetings. The selected candidates will remain on the roster for a period of 36 months and may be contracted for specific tasks by any section in the office.
Work Assignment: Simultaneous translation from English to Thai, Thai to English languages.
Each time a particular translator from the roster is selected for work, the detailed work arrangements, and assignment specifications, including deliverables, time frames and supervision arrangements, will be established.
Duration of Contract: The consultants will remain on the roster for a period of 36 months.
Duty Travel: Travel may be required for some specific assignments upon agreement with hiring office.
To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
• A degree in communications, journalism, social sciences, language related diploma, or a related technical field.
• Minimum 3 years of professional work experience in simultaneous translator Thai and English languages.
• High level and outstanding spoken and Thai and English language translation skills.
• Demonstrated experience in simultaneous translating Thai and English language via online tools such as Zoom, etc.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and flexible attitude.
• Prior work experience with UN agencies and UNICEF style.
• Familiarity with children’s issues or social issues.
• Consultant based in Bangkok is also preferable.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.
The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations, or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
