The Department of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) was established in 1995 and offers comprehensive and structured CPD programmes for general dental practitioners, consultants, specialists and all other members of the dental team. Short educational programmes and longer part-time substantive degree programmes are also offered, together with revision courses and distance learning programmes. This type of education and training is facilitated by the emphasis on small group teaching which is evidence-based. Staff are experienced postgraduate teachers with high levels of clinical expertise. The Department delivers the Dental Manikin (DM) section of the Overseas Registration Examination (ORE) for the General Dental Council, as part of the ORE Consortium which consists of UCL Eastman Dental Institute, the Royal ENT and the Eastman Dental Hospital, Queen Mary University of London and the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

The main purpose of the post is to ensure the development, coordination and smooth running of the prestigious part-time Masters in Implant Dentistry for Dental Practitioners. In addition, the post is involved in the design and delivery of short courses and teaching on other postgraduate programmes (including the supervision of MSc dissertation/research projects) and courses, in the fields of Prosthodontic Dentistry, including related training and mentoring.

The MSc in Implant Dentistry runs over 3 years with over 82 contact days including compulsory induction/enrolment and examination days. Teaching takes place throughout the academic year on Tuesdays and Wednesday.

We are seeking to recruit three outstanding individuals for the part time Clinical Lecturer (Teaching) posts at 0.1FTE, 0.2 FTE and 0.4FTE.

  • 0.1 FTE involves clinical supervision two days a month, usually on Tuesday.
  • 0.2 FTE involves clinical supervision and teaching, one day a week, usually on Tuesday.
  • 0.4 FTE involves coordination of the 3rd year of the Implant MSC programme and may include clinical supervision and teaching, usually held on Wednesday.

You must be a fully qualified dental practitioner and must be registered with the GDC, or be eligible to register. The post-holder will have experience of delivering postgraduate teaching in Implant and Prosthodontic Dentistry, and will also have experience of delivering continuing professional development courses.
