About the Role
A Servers and Storage officer for Monitoring support is required by Hybrid platforms, within IT Services, to help maintain and support essential college IT.  It is our strategic vision that Hybrid Platforms will host all of the colleges’ non-research server infrastructure. The group is currently responsible for over 800 servers which provide a diverse range of services to staff and students.

This is a challenging and important position for a candidate with extensive knowledge and experience of SolarWinds and Dynatrace monitoring tools and a strong understanding of the fundamentals of IT infrastructure. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the advanced troubleshooting of SolarWinds and work closely with other IT teams for the deployment of Dynatrace. They will be working within a team of specialists entrusted to deliver high quality, robust, resilient, responsive and secure University wide services.

About You
Candidates should have a degree (or equivalent) in an IT related subject and have experience of implementing and maintaining monitoring systems and covering the majority of the following technical streams:

  • In depth knowledge of SolarWinds daily operations and know how on integrating with other systems (e.g. Ivanti, Audio Visual equipment and Network equipment)
  • Report generation under SolarWinds using out of the box tool and SQL queries.
  • Dynatrace implementation under hybrid environment
  • MS SQL server
  • Vendor, license and stakeholder management
  • Excellent communication skill
  • Experience of public cloud would be advantageous
  • SolarWinds upgrade from 2020 to 2023
  • Understanding of SAN/NAS storage would be an advantage
  • Understanding and experience of virtualization (VMware) or equivalent virtualization platforms.
  • Understanding and experience of backup tools and software such as Commvault or equivalent

About the Department
This role is within the Professional Services, IT Services Department, The Hybrid platforms team is a 3rd line IT operations team that is responsible for the support of centralised IT services within the University. These include Data Centre operations, physical servers and storage arrays, backup systems, virtualization platforms, Windows and Linux servers and monitoring systems.
