We are seeking a highly motivated and passionate individual to join our team as a Community Programs Coordinator. The Community Programs Coordinator will play a key role in planning, implementing, and evaluating community-based wildfire education programs and initiatives aimed at raising awareness, building partnerships, and fostering community engagement in wildfire prevention and preparedness efforts.

Education/Skills:        

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited University or formal education/training in Environmental Science, Natural Resources Management, Environmental Education, Community Development, or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in program coordination, community outreach, or education, preferably in the fields of environmental conservation, wildfire management, or disaster preparedness
  • Strong knowledge of wildfire science, ecology, and management principles, as well as current trends and best practices in wildfire education and outreach
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate diverse audiences and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, program planning, and implementation, with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with internal teams, external partners, and community stakeholders to achieve shared goals and objectives.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and project management software. Experience with setting up database management systems is a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel within the region/state to attend meetings, events, and outreach activities as needed.
  • Willing and interested in working with youth, and willing to submit to a background check.

Job Duties: 

Facilitation of Youth Conservation Corps Programs

  • Recruit, interview, and make hiring recommendations for participants in regional youth conservation corps program.
  • Identify program partners and sponsors, and work with them to establish an annual program of work.
  • Plan and implement a robust training program to prepare crew leaders and crew members to have a successful season of work.
  • Recruit partners to participate in an end of season career fair for crew members.
  • Collect photos and engage with youth throughout the season to document program efficacy and successes.

Community Ambassador Programs and Firewise Communities

  • Recruit, train, and manage volunteers and community ambassadors to support program delivery, outreach efforts, and engagement activities.
  • Engage with and provide support for communities interested in participating in the Firewise USA community recognition program.
  • Create and manage a system to evaluate program effectiveness, track key performance indicators, and prepare reports to assess program impact, outcomes, and achievements.

General Duties

  • Implement strategic objectives for community-based wildfire education programs in alignment with organizational goals and priorities.
  • Coordinate and facilitate workshops, training sessions, and outreach events on wildfire prevention, preparedness, and evacuation planning for residents, schools, community organizations, and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with local government agencies, fire departments, conservation organizations, and other partners to identify community needs, resources, and opportunities for collaboration.
  • Develop and distribute educational materials, resources, and toolkits to support wildfire education and preparedness efforts in target communities.
  • Conduct outreach and engagement activities to raise awareness, build partnerships, and foster community involvement in wildfire prevention and mitigation initiatives.
  • Represent the organization at community events, meetings, and forums to promote wildfire education initiatives and advocate for community resilience.
