ICFG – International Center for Future Generations

Brussels, Belgium

Are you ready to join a team dedicated to shaping a future where emerging technologies serve the best interests of humanity? Look no further than the International Center for Future Generations (ICFG).

Established in 2023, ICFG is dedicated to shaping a future where decision-makers anticipate and responsibly govern the societal impacts of rapid technological change, ensuring that emerging technologies are harnessed to serve the best interests of humanity. The ambition of ICFG is to become the most impactful think-and-do-tank in the European Union (EU) by working with stakeholders within the EU and national governments and providing them with expertise and concrete policy suggestions. ICFG executes rigorous, independent, and policy-oriented research to create awareness about emerging technologies that require the urgent attention of political decision-makers.

As a startup organization, we’re a team of 20 individuals working both in Brussels and remotely. With 2024 being an important election year, we are poised to make a significant impact and we want you to be part of it!

About ICFG

  • ICFG operates as a catalyst for change and its programs currently evolve around the following focus areas: Advanced artificial intelligence, Neurotechnology, Biotechnology, Quantum technology, and Climate Interventions. In addition, there are two cross-cutting programs – Foresight and Governance – that dig into the bigger picture challenges of effective policymaking;
  • We are funded with private investments and we do not accept funding from government or commercial interests. Our funders don’t gain from our activities so independence in the research and outreach is guaranteed;
  • We’re a start-up organization of about 20 people at the moment and growing fast. Some are working from Brussels, some remotely.

About the role

Rowan Emslie, our Head of Communications & Public Affairs is putting together a new team to build ICFG’s influence in Brussels and ensure our path breaking research is reaching key decision makers. Here is how you will fit in:

  • We view events as a core element in the way we communicate and it is already integrated into program budgets. We expect you to set up a process for events that ensures quality, feasibility and the achievement of its communication goals;
  • You coordinate all regional and global events our staff attends (e.g. COP29, EHFG, AI Safety Summit etc.) making sure they are well accommodated and well prepared to maximize participation in these events;
  • You organize and execute all events ICFG has planned to host, mostly in Brussels. If you need help, we have a partner and an operations colleague that can provide support. Participants can be MEPs, government officials, senior civil society leaders, business executives, academics, as well as the general public. Finding the right kind of connection each time is key;
  • We expect you to identify great opportunities yourself for events to host or to attend, this role isn’t entirely based on demand but also on your own expertise.

What you will need to succeed in this role

  • Deep understanding of Brussels and the Brussels bubble;
  • Prior experience in a think tank or policy organization;
  • An extensive network of vendors and service providers in and around Brussels;
  • Strong project management, problem-solving skills, and flexibility;
  • Tech-savviness. Bonus points if you are already comfortably in a Google environment;
  • Alignment with our values of intellectual humility, compassion, and collaboration.

What we offer

  • Salary: The salary for this position is competitive (with potential market supplements for Brussels candidates);
  • Flexible working hours and location: Working from home is perfectly fine, however for this role we expect to see you a lot in our office (Avenue des Arts 44, 1040 Brussels);
  • Vacation days: We offer a generous number of Vacation days (statutory days, discretionary days, shut-it-down days, etc.) and Parental Leave and Care Leave days;
  • Learning & Development: An annual contribution toward personal education & development;
  • Wellness & Wellbeing: An annual contribution toward personal wellness & wellbeing;
  • Inclusive workplace: We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer, fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace for all.

How to apply

The attributes listed above represent our current thinking for the role. You can be a great candidate even if you don’t fit everything we’ve described above. You can also have important skills we haven’t thought of. If that’s you – even if you’re on the fence – we encourage you to apply and tell us about yourself!

To apply for this exceptional opportunity, please send your CV and cover letter to [email protected]. Queries can be directed to Rowan Emslie ([email protected]). The deadline for applications is 22/03/2024.
