The Aquatic Safety and Rental Manager is responsible for managing the lifeguard staff and aqua fitness programming staff.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Determines and coordinates budgets, staffing, programming, logistics, and operating procedures.  
  • Provides safest environment for our customers by following the standards set by Ellis & Associates Comprehensive Aquatic Risk Management Program. 
  • Hires, trains, and supervises temporary employees for lifeguards and aqua fitness instructors. 
  • Plans related budgets and schedules.
  • Responsible for all payroll related functions for the staff that report up to this position.
  • Supervises, schedules, plans, and oversees weekly and monthly in-service trainings with each group to ensure highest level of safety and instruction for the patrons of the facility. 
  • Implements and executes department progressive discipline for hourly employees.
  • Maintains safety and aqua fitness equipment.
  • Creates and continually updates emergency action plans.  
  • Creates facility schedules and maintains the Fusion software management system.
  • Publishes schedules for public view on website and for reservations in Fusion. 
  • Manages practice schedules, facility use agreements, and billing for our regular in-house teams throughout the year. 
  • Schedules rental requests from outside groups and executes rental agreements.
  • Assists with daily chemical checks and pool samples. 
  • Coordinates staff for event setup, teardown, and facility changeovers.
  • Assists other managers with event timing and stadium operations.   
  • Manages winter holiday training program and spring lifeguard training courses.
  • Collaborates with AD to develop marketing and advertising plan to draw in customers. 
  • Schedules lanes and diving board usage for teams, and creates and manages contracts for each rental per university guidelines.
  • Schedules training dates and sets fees for lifeguard and CPR/First Aid courses.
  • Distributes online course information and conducts skills course following Ellis & Associates guidelines.
  • Develops a week-long Jr. Lifeguard course curriculum for Summer Day Camp program. 
  • Trains full-time staff, swim instructors, day camp staff, aqua fitness staff, Jags coaches, and stadium staff in CPR and First Aid. 
  • Serves as facility emergency coordinator.
  • Serves as a volunteer coordinator and facility representative for events as needed.
  • Serves on local organizing committees for major events as needed.

General Responsibilities

  • Evaluates recreation areas, equipment, facilities, and services to determine if they are producing desired results.
  • Directs the design, implementation, evaluation, and expansion of recreational programming.
  • Recruits, hires, supervises, evaluates, and coordinates the work activities of employees.
  • Ensures compliance by implementing the established risk management plan, monitoring and verifying certifications and training, and conducting inspections of facilities and equipment.


Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.

 

EDUCATION

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in exercise science, recreation, sports management, or related field

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in exercise science, recreation, sports management, or related field

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 2 years of related experience with structured recreational programming

Preferred

  • 3 years of related experience with structured recreational programming

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

Required

  • Jeff Ellis & Associates Lifeguard Instructor Certification within 180 days from date of hire
  • CPR/AED within 180 days from date of hire
  • Standard First Aid within 180 days from date of hire
  • Preventing Disease Transmission/Universal Precautions within 180 days from date of hire

This position requires both sedentary work and long durations of movement about the workspace. It requires the ability to move and transport objects and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential tasks with or without an accommodation.
