Summary

New Business Development (NBD) provides leadership in Save the Children’s efforts to achieve greater program results at scale through the successful pursuit of large and strategic United States government (USG) funding opportunities. We are currently recruiting a Lead Associate to provide general support in new business and proposal development across multiple regions and technical areas. You will have special focus on supporting production, copy editing, design, and formatting of final proposals, along with other marketing and external communication materials. The ideal candidate will have a skill set that combines general operational and organizational skills along with communication, editing, graphics, and writing.

What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)

Proposal Production/Copy Editing (50%):

  • As the copy editor for assigned opportunities, ensure clarity of presentation, consistency, proper citation, formatting, and overall readability (grammar, punctuation, voice, and tone) in accordance with Save the Children’s style guidance and donor requirements
  • Support proposal production and final packaging, coordinating with the Proposal Manager and other team members to ensure the technical and cost applications are compliant with the donor requirements and Save’s internal quality assurance standards
  • Support the development of proposal graphics and the overall visual presentation of the final submission materials

Knowledge Management, Marketing, & Communications (30%):

  • Contribute to the development and upkeep of NBD resources related to proposal development, writing, editing, and production
  • Contribute to internal efforts to streamline and improve upon the production, standards, formatting, use of graphics and style guidance for proposals and presentations
  • Collaborate with the Business Teams and Country Offices as needed to design and develop targeted marketing and communications materials for institutional and private donors
  • Collaborate across teams to support maintaining an updated Past Performance Reference library for use in proposals

Proposal Support (20%):

  • Serve on proposal teams as a Proposal Assistant: provide general proposal management support ensuring proposals follow established processes, are of high quality, and in compliance with the donor requirements
  • Support the development of select proposal sections/inputs such as curriculum vitae (CV), past performance references, and organizational capacity statements, compiling information from various program sources and coordinating across teams
  • For oral presentations and co-creation activities, assist in the drafting and review of the presentation scripts, slide decks, and succinct responses to donor questions and feedback

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent, plus at least 3 years of relevant experience
  • Proven ability to manage a complex and varied workload, while adhering to tight deadlines
  • Demonstrated successful analytical, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated attention to detail
  • Proven ability to multi-task and able to make decisions based on established practices and policies as appropriate
  • Demonstrated experience in international development sector, either in a communication, technical writing, or business development capacity
  • Professional proficiency in MS Office suite and proven ability to learn new systems, including SharePoint
  • Professional proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with individuals and teams at all levels, both internally and externally
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering and maintaining and environment of diversity, inclusion, and belonging.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Formal editorial training
  • Graphic or visual design experience
  • Experience with United States Agency for International Development (USAID)
  • Previous experience in an organization funded through USG grants/contracts and exposure to the proposal development of USG proposals

Compensation

Save the Children is offering the following salary ranges for this position, dependent on candidate location:

  • Geo 1 – NY Metro, DC, and other locations with labor costs significantly above national average: Target Salary for this position is $66,300 – $74,100 base salary
  • Geo 2 – Locations around the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $60,350 – $67,450 base salary
  • Geo 3 – Locations significantly below the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $54,400 – $60,800 base salary

The salary ranges listed above are for US based candidates. For candidates located outside of the US, salary ranges will be based on the salary scales of the local employer of record.

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, base salary of internal peers, business sector, and geographic location (more information on job structure is available here). Employee may be eligible for an incentive program.  Save the Children also offers paid vacation, accrued at least 12 days a year, depending on paygrade and length of service, paid safety and wellness leave of at least 1 day per month worked for a full time employee which is pro rata reduced for employees working less than a full time schedule, and at least 10 paid holidays a year. Employees may be eligible for additional bonus compensation.
