Job Summary
The Lab Coordinator will join Clinical Pharmacology Research Laboratory under the Division of Cardiology School of Medicine at ZSFG to conduct nicotine and tobacco related researches in human. The Lab Coordinator will perform advance chromatographic and mass spectrometric analysis, such as Gas Chromatography (GC), Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GCMS), Gas Chromatography-Tandem Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS/MS), and Liquid Chromatography with Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS); organize experimental data and keep detailed records of experiments; prepare and present reports independently. The Lab Coordinator will work with lab manager in all phases of lab operation such as organizing collaborative projects, preparing the Standard Operation Procedure for the chromatographic assays and maintaining quality assurance records. The Lab Coordinator will also involve in equipment preventive maintenance, service agreement updates, freezers, equipment inventory; maintain records for Biohazard User Authorization Permit; will be the lab contact for safety inspection, facilities management and repairs; perform other duties as assigned. The Lab Coordinator will order lab supplies/chemicals (via. BearBuy), maintain inventory of all instrument and lab supplies, maintain inventory of standard and controls, preparation of standard and controls and work with the lab assistant to ensure these things are maintained.

Department Description
The Division of Cardiology at ZSFG is home for an active clinical pharmacology research program led by Dr. Neal Benowitz, who is also an attending physician in our cardiology clinic. This research group consists of UCSF faculty whose studies are focused broadly on clinical investigation of the pharmacology and cardiovascular toxicities of tobacco, electronic cigarettes, and cannabis products. The analytical chemistry laboratory is recognized as a national resource for biomarkers of tobacco exposure due to staff members with training and expertise in demanding mass spectrometry and gas chromatography techniques that are required for accurate and reproducible measurements. Investigators at ZSFG are world leaders in research on nicotine and public health policies related to its regulation. They have published over 700 research papers in these areas.
Required Qualifications
- BA/BS in a related science and one or more years of recent, directly related work experience, utilizing the techniques or methods required by the position; and/or equivalent experience/training.
- Excellent written and communication skills; proficiency with PC or Macintosh computers (particularly MS Excel & MS Access 2010);
- Must be able to work with hazardous materials and perform repetitive tasks. (such as, chemical and biological material and pipetting).
Preferred Qualifications
- Two years of related experience.
- Solid experience in drug testing laboratory and knowledge in good lab practice
- Computer literacy including MS Word, Excel and Access (2010)
- Excellent organization skill, attention to detail and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a group setting.
