What you’ll be doing

Reporting into the Coordinator – Alcohol & Other Drugs you will provide support to clients who are experiencing addiction and/or substance dependence. This could range from a one-off harm reduction session, right through to long-term case management. Your role contributes to a world-class harm reduction program and is an outpost role which will be based at various residential sites across Metropolitan Melbourne.

You will

  • Support a self-determined caseload of voluntary clients to identify and achieve AOD related goals.
  • Complete AOD screening/assessment tools, and support clients in accessing residential and community-based support services.
  • Develop Individual Treatment Plans (ITP’s) collaboratively with clients.
  • Support complex clients through the life of their treatment plan.
  • Provide harm-reduction based information sessions to at risk clients.
  • Contribute to the ongoing operation of a (secondary) Needle and Syringe Program (NSP), and a world-class harm-reduction program.

What we’re looking for (Key selection criteria)

You will have

  • Relevant tertiary qualification which meets the minimum standard qualifications to work in the AOD Sector (eg. Certificate IV in AOD or AOD competencies) or a willingness to obtain these qualifications.
  • Demonstrated experience in client facing human services, social work or other relevant discipline, with a preference for an understanding of housing and homelessness policy, context and systems.
  • An understanding of AOD treatments and interventions, including knowledge of the different types of public AOD services available.
  • An understanding of AOD theories, including harm minimisation and problematic substance combinations.
  • An understanding of trauma informed practice and the individual and structural relationships between trauma, substance dependence, and homelessness.
  • Full Victorian Drivers Licence (mandatory).
