Job Summary: Duties include prepping lower-level chemistry and biology labs, setting up various scientific equipment for labs, teaching lab assistants proper equipment use and care, ensuring building 58A labs are properly maintained, overseeing safe handling and disposal of chemical and biological wastes, performing calibration and routine maintenance of lab instruments and microscopes, performing general stockroom duties, such as ordering, receiving, and taking inventory, and placing order for the HMCSE summer undergraduate research program.

Minimum Qualifications: A high school diploma and two years of appropriate experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications Familiarity with equipment used in biology and chemistry laboratories.
Substantial knowledge of Biology, Chemistry and Physics,
Experience in lab environment and ability to train undergraduate/graduate student workers are required.
Essential Functions / Job Duties:
- 30% – To service the storeroom in building 58A, ensuring that supplies and chemicals are available for all laboratory courses taught in lower division biology, chemistry, and physics laboratories. Work closely with Lab Coordinators on lab setup. Must complete tasks in a timely manner. Must adhere to scheduled lunch hour, thereby letting teaching assistants know availability. Must set scheduled hours available in stockroom or labs. – (Essential)
- 30% – To oversee the greenhouse, headhouse and associated facilities, ensuring that necessary supplies are available and that the facilities are maintained. Must spend 12hrs/week working on greenhouse duties. Need to ensure that plants are available on dates needed by the botany faculty. Maintain a daily log of greenhouse operations. – (Essential)
- 20% – To oversee the laboratories, preparation rooms, instrument rooms, deionization system, to ensure that these facilities are properly maintained. To report maintenance problems in building 58A and greenhouse to physical plant and follow up on repairs. Ensure security of laboratories, greenhouse, computer room, study room, and storeroom. Need to remove chemicals following labs, and check labs at least weekly for chemical waste or biohazardous waste. Must notify UWF Environmental Health and Safety for hazardous waste pick-up and disposal. – (Essential)
- 5% – Initiate orders for supplies and chemicals needed for building 58A and HMCSE SURP and to work through the stores manager in placing and receiving orders. Must anticipate storeroom needs, acquiring and shelving stock in a timely manner. – (Essential)
- 5% – To maintain inventory of all chemicals and supplies in the building 58A stockroom. Must follow inventory procedures as set by stores manager. – (Essential)
- 5% – To assist and work closely with the stores manager in maintaining the inventory in the satellite areas in and outside building 58A. Ensure that the supplies needed in 58A are available. – (Essential)
- 5% – Set-up and maintain small equipment items, balances, pH meters, etc., located in building 58A. Oversee the laboratories, preparation rooms, instrument rooms, and deionization system, to ensure that these facilities are properly maintained. Report maintenance problems in building 58A and greenhouse to Facilities Maintenance and follow up on repairs. Make sure that all small equipment items in 58A are operating correctly and services are available for the teaching labs. – (Essential)
