An exciting opportunity based in the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences for a supply chain enthusiast with a passion and a talent for research and innovation.

You will be working as Research Assistant and will contribute to our new project titled “scaling the UK insect protein sector: industrial research for low-emission protein production” under the supervision of Dr Evanthia Thanou and Dr Dimitra Kalaitzi. The project, funded by equal partners Innovate UK and the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC), aims to accelerate the UK’s insect protein sector by addressing major barriers to scaling. AgriGrub, the UK’s largest insect protein producer, will work alongside Beta Bugs, an insect breeder, and Aston University, supply chain analysis specialists, to address these challenges and build a roadmap for scaling insect production in the UK to meet demand.

We welcome applications from skilled, passionate and committed researchers who can contribute to our project. The Research Assistant will be responsible for specific activities related to this project such as supply chain mapping and the work will involve a range of research methods including a structured literature review, qualitative interviews and focus groups. With excellent communication skills, you will be also expected to contribute to the writing of reports and other outputs including developing a roadmap for upscaling.
