Offer Description
In the framework of the project KURAMi: Knowledge-based, explainable User empowerment in Releasing private data and Assessing Misinformation in online environments (https://kurami.disco.unimib.it/ ), a 15-month Post-doc position in IR/NLP & Data Privacy is open at the University of Milano-Bicocca, Milan, Italy.
Starting date: May 1, 2024
Public call formal interview: March 28, 2024
The KURAMi project stems from observing recent dynamics in considering the protection of users’ data and privacy, and users’ access to potential misinformation, through EU regulations and guidelines. A key aspect is the balance between the rights to confidentiality, autonomous decision-making, free access to information, and freedom of expression. KURAMi aims to develop knowledge-based and explainable solutions for empowering users in addressing different issues in this scenario.
Aims of the Project:
KURAMi will then empower users in their decision-making processes, giving them more control over the release of, and access to, content in online environments with clear benefits in terms of personal and social good, scientific research, and sustainable and responsible economy.
Research Units: The project is inter-university and involves the University of Turin (Turin, Italy) and the University of Milan (La Statale) (Milan, Italy). The candidate for this position will work at the Department of Computer Science of the University of Milano-Bicocca (Milan, Italy), but will have frequent contact with other researchers working on the same project in the other universities of the consortium.
Required Skills: The ideal candidate should have a Ph.D. in Computer Science or related disciplines (however, this is not a mandatory requirement, also a Master’s Degree in these disciplines will be considered) and should have working/research experience in Natural Language Processing and/or Information Retrieval and (Trustworthy) Artificial Intelligence. Any experience in data privacy/confidentiality will be considered a plus. A very good knowledge of the English language is required. Knowledge of Italian will be a plus but not considered an essential constraint.
Contract Type and Salary: This is a 15-month, full-time, non-permanent contract. The average working day is 7/8 hours. The salary is approximately EUR 2,000 net per month.
Working Place: The candidate will be part of the Information and Knowledge Representation, Retrieval, and Reasoning (IKR3) Lab (https://ikr3.disco.unimib.it/ ) of the Department of Informatics, Systems, and Communication at the University of Milano-Bicocca (Milan, Italy). The supervisor will be Prof. Marco Viviani (https://ikr3.disco.unimib.it/people/marco-viviani/ ).
