Career Discovery Internship Program (CDIP) Visitor Services
The Student Conservation Association (SCA) has partnered with the US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) to provide summer internships for first & second year college students from culturally and ethnically diverse backgrounds.
USFWS Career Discovery Internship Program (CDIP) is a 13-week, full time, paid summer work opportunity for students with an interest in the conservation industry, who are of Alaskan Native, American Indian, Asian/Pacific Islander, African American, Hispanic, or of other racial minority descent.
High-performing interns will have the opportunity to be exposed to widespread geographic locations, a variety of work assignments and tasks, as well as, have the opportunity to be enrolled in USFWS student hiring programs.
Eligibility
- US Citizens or Permanent Residents
- First and Second Year college students academic year 2023-2024
- Some positions in this program will require you to have access to a personal vehicle during your internship.
- Available to serve in the Southeast, Midwest, Northeast, Pacific northwest or Alaska: May or early June to August 2024
Program Details:
- Visitor Services positions contain a mix of interpretation, visitor center staffing, working with volunteers, and will generally assist with any and all refuge operational needs that may come up. All positions will involve some work outside of the duties of a Visitor Services intern depending on the need and urgency of that need.
- Internships take place at U.S. Fish and Wildlife field stations throughout the country
- Internships are 13 weeks long during the summer
- Participate in a week-long orientation session to kick off your internship
Benefits:

- Weekly Living Allowance $620.00 per week
- Week-long orientation, expenses paid
- Assigned U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Mentor
- Travel allowance to and from internship site $1000.00
