2024 Graduate Internship Programme (Deposit Insurance Systems Data)

The International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI) is looking for recent graduates to join the 2024 Bank for International Settlements (BIS) cohort of Graduate Interns. This is an 11-month internship that will allow you to use the knowledge you gained during your studies in a professional environment. Joining us is not just about launching your international career, it is about doing meaningful work for the public good and serving the global community.

By joining the IADI graduate internship Programme you will:

  • have the opportunity to work in a small team of an international standard-setting body at the intersection of research and policy.
  • gain insights in the design of deposit insurance and bank failure management systems.
  • gain practical experience in using data for research and policy development in an international context.
  • work with international experts on deposit insurance systems and be part of an intellectually stimulating organisational culture characterised by effective collaboration, high-quality output and attention to detail.
  • be able to work creatively on projects that involve the visualisation of data and contribute to the analysis of financial stability issues.

Purpose of the Internship Programme:

The programme is aimed at enriching your work experience in order to help you in your pursuit of your next step, whether to a higher educational degree or a position at another organisation.

Programme duration: 11 months

Programme location: Basel, Switzerland

Programme start date: October 2024

Principal accountabilities:

  • Conduct data validation on a set of global data on deposit insurance systems.
  • Assist in survey design, database management and implementing IADI’s data framework policy.
  • Support research and analysis on deposit insurance systems by collecting, processing and conducting statistical and econometric analysis of data related to deposit insurance.
  • In close collaboration with policy experts, contribute to publications and meeting materials.
  • Research data, create graphs and tables for use in publications and at international meetings and conferences.
  • Contribute to further developing IADI’s data visualisation tool and assist in building a database on bank failure management.

Qualifications, skills, and experience:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant field completed in 2023 or 2024
  • Exposure to topics such as deposit insurance, bank resolution and crisis management, financial regulation and supervision and fintech
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to work diligently on data issues
  • Data processing and visualisation skills (experience with Tableau dashboard development would be an advantage)
  • Coding skills in R and/or Python to produce chart packs or modelling would be an advantage
  • Econometric modelling – fixed effects models, hypothesis testing, regression and time series models would be an advantage.
  • Drafting skills in English

What we offer:

The contract is for up to 11 months (non-renewable). This is a paid internship; in addition, we offer health insurance, support with relocation, and return travel, as well as accommodation in Basel.
