Dates: March 16th, 2026 – August 8th (Short Term) / November 14th (Long Term) 2026

Wages: $21.10 / Hour, plus overtime

Program Summary:  

The Southwest Conservation Corps (SCC), a program of Conservation Legacy, builds on the legacy of the Civilian Conservation Corps (1933–1942). SCC provides youth and young adults opportunities to complete conservation projects on public lands while receiving training in job skills, leadership, teamwork, conflict resolution, and environmental stewardship. Programs follow a step-ladder approach to skill development. Members receive a weekly living allowance, training, and an AmeriCorps Education Award (for qualifying individuals). SCC’s Youth Program provides paid job opportunities for high school students and service-learning opportunities for middle school students. SCC’s Adult programs include saw crews, fire crews, ecological monitoring, and watershed crews.

Position Summary:  

Applicants may work with youth, adults, or a combination of both programs — you do not need to work with both. Please indicate your preference in your cover letter. The Field Supervisor provides field and logistical support to seasonal crews, which may include youth, adult, or a combination of both programs, depending on seasonal needs and applicant preference. Responsibilities include supporting recruitment and outreach, program planning, training facilitation, and project logistics. Time is primarily field-based, with seasonal fluctuations between field and office work. Overnight stays are required. This position provides continued field exposure while developing administrative, operational, and logistical skills.

Responsibilities:  

Training

• Develop and implement crew leader trainings covering technical work, protocols, leadership, and facilitation skills.
• Serve as a role model and mentor to Crew Leaders and Crew Leaders in Development.
• Spend significant time in the field during the 6-8 week training season to set expectations and tone.
• Support Youth Crew Leader Training (if interested in working with youth)

Field Support

• Conduct regular visits to crews, project partners, and worksites.
• Provide technical assistance, guidance, and mentorship to crew leaders and corps members.
• Oversee project quality and management in both front country and remote locations.
• Fill in for vacant crew leader positions as needed.
• Implement educational and corps member development lessons regularly.

Recruitment & Outreach (Youth Programs)

• Support recruitment, interviewing, and onboarding of youth members through school and community outreach.

Programming

• Assist in planning, scheduling, and implementing crew projects.
• Facilitate corps member development and support risk management policies.

Tools, Equipment & Gear

• Assist logistics staff with project planning and maintenance of vehicles, tools, and trailers.
• Maintain operations within program budgets and develop strategies for safe tool and vehicle use.

Risk Management & Emergencies

• Serve as a first responder for crew emergencies; be available for field trips and flexible schedules.
• Audit programs for risk management gaps and provide feedback to staff.

Administration & Partnerships

• Maintain accurate reporting and program documentation.
• Assist in developing and maintaining community and project partnerships.

Minimum Qualifications:  

• Current advanced medical certification (WFR or above) with CPR/AED or obtain prior to start date.
• Leadership experience in youth development, conservation corps, outdoor leadership, or wilderness travel.
• Age 21+, clean driving record, and valid driver’s license.
• Pass organization’s criminal history check.
• Proficient in one or more: trail construction/maintenance, crosscut/hand tool maintenance, chainsaw use and maintenance, fencing, ecological restoration, or environmental education.
• Effective communicator with the ability to manage complexity, cultivate innovation, and drive results.
• Flexible, adaptable, and able to work independently or collaboratively.
• Willingness to spend days, overnights, or weekends in the field.

Preferred Qualifications or a Strong Desire to Grow in the Following:  

• Experience with SCC or other conservation/youth corps.
• Teaching, facilitation, conflict resolution, and team-building experience with diverse groups.
• Sense of humor, spirit of adventure, and desire to make a positive impact.

Adult program Only

• Chainsaw and/or crosscut certification or willingness to learn.
• Interest/experience in plant identification, data collection, or herbicide application (Technician training/CO license or willingness to obtain a plus).
