The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) at the British Embassy in Angola supports UK trade, investment, and wider economic objectives, working to strengthen commercial relationships and promote sustainable economic growth between the UK and Angola.

Roles and responsibilities:

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team supporting the delivery of the UK’s economic and commercial priorities in Angola.

The Trade Adviser will provide critical short-term support (6 months) across a fast-growing portfolio, contributing to the development of UK-Angola projects, delivery of key events and ministerial engagements, and strengthening trade and investment flows.

1. Project & Trade Support (30%)

  • Support the development of trade and investment pipelines, including project tracking and stakeholder coordination.
  • Assist in identifying opportunities for UK exports, partnerships, and investment.
  • Undertake market and sector research across priority areas to inform strategic decisions.

2. Due Diligence & Analysis (15%)

  • Conduct basic commercial and reputational due diligence on companies and partners.
  • Analyse project proposals and contribute to risk assessments.
  • Prepare concise summaries, insights, and recommendations for internal stakeholders.

3. Events & Programme Delivery (25%)

  • Support the planning and delivery of commercial events, trade missions, and forums (e.g. networking events, investment forums).
  • Coordinate logistics, stakeholder invitations, and follow-up actions.
  • Liaise with partners, including chambers of commerce, private sector representatives, and government counterparts.

4. Ministerial & Senior Engagement Support (10%)

  • Assist in coordinating ministerial visits and high-level engagements.
  • Draft briefings, talking points, and meeting readouts.
  • Support scheduling and stakeholder engagement management.

5. Coordination & Administrative Support (20%)

  • Maintain internal tracking tools, databases, and reporting systems.
  • Ensure timely follow-up on actions, deliverables, and commitments.
  • Provide flexible, ad hoc support across the Economic and Commercial team as required.

The above list is not exhaustive, and the jobholder will be required to be flexible and take on other ad hoc tasks as required, including participating in the Embassy’s emergency planning and any other response to a crisis affecting UK citizens. Essential qualifications, skills and experience

  • Strong organisational and project coordination skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and deliver to tight deadlines without compromising quality.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English and Portuguese, with the ability to convey information clearly and concisely.
  • High level of attention to detail, particularly in conducting due diligence and research.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a small, fast-paced team.
  • Professional, proactive, and flexible approach, with a strong delivery focus.

Desirable qualifications, skills and experience

  • Experience in trade, business, consulting, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting the organisation and delivery of events or programmes.
  • Knowledge or understanding of Angola and/or wider African markets.
  • Experience working with or supporting government institutions or international organisations.
